🇨🇺 US Sanctions a Cuban Ministry for the First Time, Visiting Democrats Compare the Blockade to a “Silent Gaza”

Four Democratic members of Congress who visited Cuba this weekend described the U.S. energy blockade as turning the island into a “silent Gaza,” on the same day the Trump administration rolled out a fresh round of sanctions targeting Cuba’s tourism, energy, and trade sectors.

Reps. Mark Pocan, Teresa Leger Fernández, Maxine Dexter, and Delia Ramírez met President Miguel Díaz-Canel during the four-day trip, the AP reported. Pocan said a Cuban he spoke with called the situation a “silent Gaza,” which he found “apt.”

“There may not be bombings, but there are certainly conditions that prevent people from going about their daily lives. They can’t go to work, they can’t preserve their food, they can’t access medical supplies,” he said. He accused Secretary of State Marco Rubio, raised among anti-Castro exile groups in Miami, of making the policy “personal and not professional.”

Washington imposed the energy embargo in January, and the result on the streets, the AP noted, is blackouts of more than 20 hours a day, gutted transport, and a collapse in tourism.

Hours earlier, the State Department designated 10 more Cuban entities, including, for the first time, an entire ministry, the Ministry of Tourism, along with energy importers, the foreign-trade group GECOMEX, and three armed bodies tied to state security.

Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez has branded the escalating measures “acts of genocide” and “collective punishment.” At a UN session on July 7, 136 countries voted to condemn the decades-long embargo and new fuel sanctions, with only nine opposed, including the United States and Israel.

⭕️ TIME: Trump’s Former Campaign Manager Runs Israeli Influence Operation Targeting MAGA Base

U.S. officials became concerned after MAGA influencers posted similar attacks on Trump’s June 17 ceasefire agreement with Iran, often using nearly identical language at roughly the same time.

Some shared an Israeli op-ed titled, “You Could Have Been the Greatest President of All—But You Failed.” Others circulated the same video appearing to show Qatar’s prime minister snubbing Vice President JD Vance, arguing that regional powers were dismissing the Trump administration’s “naivete.”

Several accused Trump of surrendering without eliminating Iran’s nuclear program.

Officials tracing the posts came to suspect a wider influence network linked to Brad Parscale, Trump’s former campaign manager.

FARA filings previously reported by Responsible Statecraft show Parscale’s Clock Tower X agreed to produce pro-Israel content, distribute messaging through conservative media networks, and influence how AI systems including ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini characterize Israel and its wars.

New reporting from TIME cites sources who said firms linked to Parscale distributed suggested messaging to conservative influencers through private group chats, with some creators paid based on their posts’ reach and engagement. TIME names Eyal Yakoby as an influencer paid by a Parscale-linked firm.

🇸🇩 Former Rep. Tom Malinowski and Sen. Bernie Sanders are calling out American public and leaders’ silence around UAE’s role in Sudan’s war as the RSF threatens El Obeid, a city of roughly half a million residents and hundreds of thousands of internally displaced persons.

🔹Malinowski pointed out how the New York Knicks wore “Abu Dhabi” jerseys during their NBA championship run because the UAE paid the team’s owners $30 million to “sports-wash its mass murder by proxy in Sudan.”

🔹He added: “Imagine the controversy (rightly so) if they’d been Israel branded.”

🔹Sen. Sanders wrote that the war has killed as many as 150,000 people, displaced 14 million, and left 30 million needing aid, saying: “All of this is fueled by the UAE… one of Trump’s closest allies. We cannot be complicit in genocide.”

🔹President Trump has personally profited from UAE-linked dealings. His latest disclosures show he received $263 million from selling half his stake in World Liberty Financial to a fund backed by Emirati royal Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed, WSJ reported in July.

🔹Both lawmakers were responding to warnings that the UAE-backed RSF could repeat its assault on El Fasher, where UN investigators said killings bore the “hallmarks of genocide.” Human Rights Watch, UN investigators, the New York Times, and Reuters have all documented UAE’s critical support for the RSF.
