I'm not a Republican but any half-intelligent person should be laughing out loud at Democrat claims this evening that the public will see Democrats as having fought the good fight in the shutdown, and that the shutdown was the Republicans' fault.

I rarely say this sort of thing but I've said all along that the GOP shouldn't give Dems an inch in this shutdown battle.

At the moment, it appears maybe the Dems got an inch, but not much more. If they just get a vote on extending Obamacare subsidies -- that were designed to expire by Dems when they were in charge -- that's basically nothing. Yeah, they'll chirp after they lose the vote and Republicans should do better at messaging than they usually do (and better than they've done during the shutdown) but basically it looks like the Dems get nothing important out of this.

And that's as it should be. The Republicans passed a clean CR at Biden spending levels. Should have been a no-brainer for Dems to go along except that they're afraid of their left-wing base who thinks they should fight harder against Trump.
