I do agree that you could file a motion to allow another person to take the papers or send via email if he refuses this adamantly so all this wasn't mandatory.

If he never answers or addresses the person in his front door, it wouldn't be considered "served". It also isn't clear whether he is considered "served" since video evidence is redacted
