Today was a sobering reminder for Alabama fans that the things we cherish most don’t always last forever—and that dominance, no matter how historic, is never guaranteed.

It’s jarring to see Alabama look mortal. Even harder to watch them look as uncomfortable and outmatched as they did today. Maybe it’s too early to fully process it, and maybe—like you—I’m embarrassed by what we saw in Pasadena. But perspective matters. And what doesn’t help is turning frustration on fellow Bama fans. We’re all feeling the same sting.

I have two degrees from the University of Alabama and spent time working with the athletic department. My pride in this school and this program runs deep. Yes, I’m disappointed—deeply so—but my love for Alabama isn’t conditional. If you call yourself a fan, it shouldn’t be either. It’s easy to stand tall when banners are being raised. It’s harder when moments like this test your loyalty. That’s when fandom actually means something.

Alabama football is in transition. It’s searching for its identity. And if we’re honest with ourselves, that discomfort was inevitable. You don’t seamlessly replace the greatest coach in the history of the sport and never feel turbulence. They’re not even two full years removed from Nick Saban. Of course it looks awkward. Of course it feels unfamiliar.

Are staff changes needed? Maybe—even probably. But the truth is, neither you nor I have any control over what happens on that field or inside that locker room. At some point, being a fan means choosing support over outrage, belief over bitterness.

Kalen DeBoer and this team have some real soul-searching to do this offseason. The lack of physicality, the mental toughness, the struggles up front and in the run game—those issues are undeniable. They have to be addressed. And I choose to believe they will be. Not because belief is easy right now—but because belief is the only choice I have.
I chose the Tide a long time ago. I’ll ride with Alabama until my time comes, through the glory and through the growing pains.
