We the affected Residents of Ibadan Circular Road sees compensation of ₦456,000 for a fully developed four-bedroom stand-alone house sitting on a full plot of land as an affront to the dignity, investment and fundamental rights of the affected property owners.

Let us be absolutely clear: in a sane country, a four-bedroom stand-alone building on a full plot of land, duly fenced and gated, tarred, roofed with Gerard roofing, equipped with an industrial borehole, POP finishes and other substantial improvements cannot reasonably be reduced to a paltry ₦456,000 and presented to its owner as “compensation.”

Compensation is meant to reasonably restore what has been taken from the affected Residents and not to mock the victims with a token payment that bears no meaningful relationship to the property, investment or prevailing realities.

What kind of valuation reduces years of sacrifice, legitimate investment, construction costs and value, infrastructure and the emotional attachment to a family home to ₦456,000?

What standard of valuation produces such a figure for a property of this magnitude?

If Engr. Seyi Makinde government genuinely intends to compensate displaced citizens fairly, then the process must be transparent, independently verifiable and based on a realistic assessment of land value, replacement cost, improvements, structures and consequential losses.

Calling ₦456,000 “compensation” does not make it fair but merely gives an official label to an amount that affected residents may reasonably regard as grossly inadequate and deeply insulting.

The administration of Engr. Seyi Makinde should understand that these are not mere figures on a spreadsheet. Behind every demolished or acquired property is a family, years of labour, financial sacrifice, dreams, security and livelihood.

A government must not dispossess its citizens and then offer them a fraction of what it would cost to rebuild what has been taken from them.
If ₦456,000 is truly being offered for a fully developed four-bedroom home on a full plot of land, then the affected residents have every right to demand answers:

Who determined this valuation?

What methodology was used?

What was the assessed value of the land?

What was the replacement cost of the building?

Were the fencing, gate, borehole, tarred surroundings, Gerard roofing, POP finishes and other improvements properly valued?

And how can ₦456,000 possibly enable the displaced owner to acquire or rebuild anything remotely comparable?

This government must stop treating the suffering of displaced citizens as an administrative footnote because these people deserve justice, not tokenism; fair valuation, not arbitrary figures; genuine compensation, not compensation in name only.

Dolling or rolling out token for a life time property is not a solution but an insult that demands explanation, accountability and urgent review.

The people are watching, records will remain and history will judge how Engr. Seyi Makinde administration treated citizens whose homes and investments were taken in the name of development.
