This adult African Penguin was admitted to SANCCOB in critical condition, severely underweight, with an injured eyelid and three deep infected wounds.
After stabilisation and testing negative for avian influenza, AP043 was moved to ICU.

Since 1 January 2026, SANCCOB, working alongside conservation authorities, has rescued 204 Critically Endangered African Penguin eggs from certain loss, giving them a second chance at life in the wild.
