@jamidcole How are school districts able to keep up with inflation for their teacher pay and operational costs. Inflation for this year is 4 percent. Will they ever consider an annual "cost of living" increase? What's there plan to retain teachers with over 20 years of experience?
For those of you who missed today’s SDE budget hearing at the Capitol, Senator Stanley asked about the topic of ending federal funding.
Superintendent Walters lied to a sitting Senator in today’s public hearing.
When politicians lie, we must hold them accountable.
Key points:
- Despite campaign comments to the contrary, Walters won't refuse federal funds
- Walters says he & Governor are "taking steps" to deal with $650K of misspent covid-cash.
- A merit raise is probably a stipend if you can take it away the next yr

So, as a principal, I’m not trusted by Walters when I say CRT and kitty litter boxes aren’t occurring in schools, but I am trusted to identify whether a teacher is “highly effective” or “superior” to enhance their livelihood?
3 years and 11 months to go.

My quick take on Walter’s SDE Budget plan so far: His plan is a mix of some of what Mississippi, Tennessee, North Carolina, & Texas are doing and then sprinkling things in we’ve already invested in, like LETRS training. This is a Frankenplan! 🧵
I also ask about the possibility of states and districts to manipulate 4th grade reading numbers by holding back 3rd graders. He says “sometimes you have to hold kids back to move them forward.” A return to the Barresi approach? /45 https://t.co/IOqSRxmR8l
@theartofed Private Investigator, empath, fortune teller, 6th sense, multitasking, 5indime store in my classroom, have everything a student might need give or take, consistent problem-solver.
@TeachGlobalEd It's come about in the last decade. It's so the learner is informed what you want them to know. You are suppose to open and close with it. It's over rated.
This is good news. School choice is such a good thing. More options for parents & kids, and needed competition to help public schools improve. I’d welcome a respectful conversation on school choice with anyone who has a different view. DM me if interested. Thanks. Thread.👇
I’m convinced about 35% of middle school students eat Takis or Hot Cheetos for lunch every day.
It’s strange and ignorant for education ‘experts’ to rarely mention ‘Maslow type data’ compared to the useless ‘Bloom data’ they often spew.
Maslow is the first domino!

Interviewed a teacher last year who left the profession.
Why did you resign?
“I have a Master’s degree. I work really hard. I love teaching kids and am great at my job. I do it all for a disgracefully low salary. All of that and I’ve never felt so disrespected by so many.”
Ensuring that the next generation of Oklahomans wholly subscribe to Ryan Walters’ narrow Evangelical worldview requires that students not be allowed to think, ask questions, or be active participants in the democratic process. #oklaed#ryanisnotOK
