Thank you to everyone who has reached out; I really do appreciate it and your support means a lot. For those of you that have asked, the best way to support me at this time is by supporting @hbcu_dap . This is my non-profit (my baby) that I started with 3 colleagues.
We have also created a Mental Health resources page and will continue to add resources: https://t.co/VOHM455i2P
We thank you for your patience as we are prioritizing our own mental health. We ask that you all do the same. Please do not hesitate to reach out when you need us ♥️
As we continue to process recent events both individually and as an organization, we want to reassure you all that we are committed to supporting you. For our Black students, we created this form so that we can do our best to support you during this time. https://t.co/iGV7kYP8E2

We created @hbcudap to provide resources, mentorship, and support for HBCU students on their journey to the doctorate. I don't need anything at this time, but I want to make sure that our students have the support that they need
I am always Black first before anything. My degrees don’t matter, what school I go to does NOT matter. So I’m always gonna take care of & protect my Blackness before anything
Not only do I have to worry about being a productive grad student & staying healthy, I have to worry about being harassed & murdered just because I’m Black. I’ve spent the last 2 days mourning so I’ve decided to mentally check out from being a grad student for a few days.
To my black friends, stop explaining why you are angry, sad, and tired. Stop begging for people to understand. The ones that do, wouldn’t ask you why you feel the way you do.
Whether you are a PI, professor, student, mentor, etc. please consider how these events are impacting your students/mentees and see how you can help. Personally, it’s mentally and physically exhausting
There have been countless times where I’ve virtually witnessed a murder of another Black person and then had to go to lab or class like nothing happened. With no acknowledgement of how these events may be impacting us.
If you aren’t aware, there have been two very public (and countless unrecorded) acts of violent racism circulating. School is difficult enough with the current pandemic, but please consider how social issues are impacting your Black students right now as well. Cont/
The scary part about SEEING the racism, discrimination, and police brutality Black folks experience every day in this country, is NOT SEEING all of the racism, discrimination, and police brutality that Black folks experience in the absence of cameras and cellphones.
Who else finna call in Black tomorrow or this week? Who wants to but knows that you have to make it through the end of the week? Sending much love out to my ppl ❤️🌱✊🏼
