Like all San Antonians, @SATXPolice should be accountable for their abuse of power and violation of the law. Unfortunately, their Union Contract is one of the most comprehensive tools against police accountability in America's 100 largest cities. https://t.co/XgUH5Zs3kg
I want to tell you a story about body cameras and *Derek Chauvin*
What Chauvin did to George Floyd, kneeling on his neck, was his move.
He had done to others.
It was all recorded by body cams.
But the footage was kept secret.
And Chauvin was left unpunished
[short THREAD]
Been getting a lot of requests to update this thread. So...
Since we published our first story on the juvenile justice system in Rutherford County, TN:
One state lawmaker said she was “horrified.” Another called it a “nightmare.” A third labeled it “unchecked barbarism.”
THREAD
This is Texas AG Ken Paxton saying he’ll throw a woman’s doctors in prison for life if they perform a *court-granted* abortion on a *nonviable* pregnancy that risks causing her permanent infertility and death.
Still think the GOP is pro-life?
@Yair_Rosenberg A totally genuine question: was there an equally (or substantially similar) attack on US civil liberties by BDS supporters to what we have seen with anti-BDS legislation (I.e. getting people to sign away First Amendment rights to receive government money)?
@Yair_Rosenberg Completely agree. But can’t help notice that there has been a concerted, unconstitutional effort to suppress the BDS movement for years now. I didn’t even realize a Wiki page had been created since I’ve been reviewing this topic but here ya go. https://t.co/AjPuXyMwFA
Assuming genocidal intent into land acknowledgments is a clearly repugnant, but predictable, strategy to stoke fear against Indigenous reparations. Land acknowledgments are the LEAST countries can do for Indigenous Communities. Hell, you could even give land back!!
Some scattered thoughts and a 🧵: 1) Land acknowledgements have become a popular way to publicly recognize the fact that all of us in America live on stolen land. If we were to accept the proviso of "no peace on stolen land," are we too legitimate targets for destruction?
@AaronChalfin Have you heard of Land Back movements? The choice isn’t a binary between excusing land theft by genocide vs. advocating for it. Lots of good work happening around the globe to return land to indigenous peoples. Heck these out:

@CathyYoung63 Educating yourself on the Māori Land Movement would be a good start to recognize that Land Back, let alone land acknowledgment, does not equate with genocide. Lots of global work on this that did not try on war or violence

@JLRINVESTIGATES @joncioschi It’s a two tiered Justice system where a judge locks up everyone but cops. Has to do with fairness. If judges seem arbitrary, then people will lose faith in them.
We're glad to support the Cost of Police Misconduct Act.
Taxpayers should know how much their government is spending to resolve allegations of police misconduct. With that information, community members and elected officials can make better decisions about how to address it.
@LessCrime@Rafa_Mangual And I assume you’ll come to my defense as well with the assumption Rafael made about me not having a JD but being in this conversation?
@LessCrime@Rafa_Mangual I’m not sure what I’m supposed to get from you saying “I’m saying we know why DAs make decisions” and “because they publicly state their reasons” other than you’re assuming DAs are telling the truth when they publicly announce why they are making their decisions.
@LessCrime@Rafa_Mangual But you are literally saying we should trust what DAs say about their cases. But Rafael’s questions require us to scrutinize every shooting case to determine the accurate charge rate=(actual charge)/(criminal shootings). You even agree with that! See photos.
@Rafa_Mangual@LessCrime I’m actually not. I haven’t once argued that more officers should be charged. The article has never once argued more officers should be charged. You made that up. You strawmanned an argument so you could grift. I expect nothing less of Fed Socs.
@Rafa_Mangual@LessCrime What are you talking about? You only need probable cause to arrest someone before a DA gets to charging. Do you think every charge is made with the assumption that there is evidence beyond a reasonable doubt of a crime?
@LessCrime@Rafa_Mangual But that’s not a good methodology. You’re just trusting the DAs without scrutinizing their decisions. Your assuming that every charge not made means that it couldn’t have possibly been a crime. If you want to make that assessment, you need all the evidence.
@Rafa_Mangual@LessCrime My whole point is you can never answer this second question UNLESS you have total access to all evidence DAs have (no information asymmetry).
