In memory 1943-2015 | Mathematics Professor @UniversityLeeds | Chair @AlanTuringYear | Award-winning author of 'Alan Turing: His Work & Impact' | Dad of four
On this day, I always think of @SBarryCooper who did so much for #AlanTuring Centenary. One of the most intelligent, kind & supportive people I’ve ever known. I wouldn’t work with @bletchleypark now, without him. Still missed all the time.
My thanks to all and everyone who supported, helped, and caffeinated me through this. In particular my supervisors, Dr. Paul Shafer and Prof. Michael Rathjen.
Also, thanks to Prof. S. Barry Cooper, @SBarryCooper, for starting me off.
Not only is the design of the new £50 note a victory for our late colleague Barry Cooper (chair of @AlanTuringYear), but our current colleague Paul Shafer working with @LondMathSoc played a role in its design! Read more about the maths on the note here:

Alan Turing will feature on the new Bank of England £50 note! 👏🏼@AlanTuringYear and our late chair @SBarryCooper campaigned for this, so it’s great that Turing is getting such recognition! https://t.co/O1eoePVNdM #AlanTuring
Alan Turing is the greatest icon of the 20th Century! Thank you to all those who voted for the WWII codebreaker and father of computer science. More info about the @BBCTwo show here: https://t.co/bvNzCRid9E #AlanTuring
@SBarryCooper. He interviewed me as a music grad looking to stop being a muso and start doing mathematics. 4hrs in, he lets me onto the MSc course that is now my PhD. Great friend. Cried so hard after his funeral.
As to hacking? I've always done that. Can't get away from it :P https://t.co/wEqzXW5oBb
@hannelita@zerology@SBarryCooper Barry regularly spoke about this idea, and this books seems to be the culmination of his idea. But for a taste, see: https://t.co/pSnyPSZbLE
