@Molson_Hart There's a line in the movie Casino, where DeNiro notes that LV moguls didn't need pension fund money anymore to build casinos, but instead junk bonds (bc USD could be created out of thin air post-1971). Severed links btwn money/labor/taxes. Full financialization.
@OrganizingPow3r @ryangrim for many jobs, you are correct. But there are structural barriers that prevent workers from switching to sectors that do have real shortages. Eg, can't get TWIC or a DoT CDL w/ medicinal marijuana use, since those programs are administered at the federal level.
@ryangrim @OrganizingPow3r spoke to an old timer at a chemical wastewater treatment plant last week. He said 8/10 workers in his section are 60+; 6 of his co-workers have retired in the past 4 years. He's been working 15 hours overtime for the past year bc they can't find workers who certify.
@ryangrim @OrganizingPow3r not to be that guy, but...
what Biden is saying is true, but wouldn't lead to a decrease in the labor force, if workers are just shifting jobs.
the real problem is that we're going through Boomer retirement.
@PAstynome I put the odds at over 75% the West goes out with a bang (nukes) than a whimper...
The Christian Dominionists that have penetrated the high ranks of government and military (eg Pompeo) are fking scary. Armageddon is biblical.
@subzero810@eshaLegal fk. I googled it, but didn't notice that it was 2017. With how crazy NBA salaries are for scrub players, it didn't seem that far out of line.
@blob_watcher it's all culture wars, and the Dem message of "we're not fking idiots" only works at the pits of an existential crisis (covid, GFC).
I support most of the principles espoused by the activist Left, but I see how a lot of Americans would get turned off by the activists themselves.
@powerchowder69 @happy_beaner @ryangrim Or be like South Carolina, spend about 10 years and billions of dollars building a reactor, then cancel it because of mismanagement.
@zerohedge The European approach is superior; giving credits to consumers to give to the energy producers and thereby keeping prices artificially highly.
Speculators and middlemen(person?) have yachts to feed!
