Good question. For me it was a room with lots of power outlets and a dozen ethernet outlets. The big white curved table I got for $100. There are lots of these for sale on the Facebook Marketplace, sometimes free. I knew I wanted big screens. And I knew I wanted everything to be 4K. I'm not sure what you already have, radio-wise. One computer and one SDR unit, either from Nooelec or SDRplay make for a good start. You can do so much with an SDR. I started at the kitchen table with a coax feed out the window to a small antenna on a painter's pole for aircraft tracking and old TV rabbit ears for weather satellite images.
