Introducing your newest Greens elected to Southend-on-Sea City Council, Anita and Kay. 💚
Anita joins Green Councillors Richard and Stuart, for a now-complete Green team in #Leigh ward. Kay is our first Green elected to the #Chalkwell ward.

Both Anita and Kay bring decades of experience in how good councils function and how local business is done.
Residents in Leigh and Chalkwell rejected the politics of division and blame, and have elected outspoken and committed community champions who will work hard for you.
Our campaigns have been speaking to voters across the City, and in many areas, the Greens are on track to shake up the makeup of the council.
We have plenty of opportunities for new members and supporters to get involved

A fantastic gathering of Greens in #Southend today, as our campaign for the 2026 #SouthendCityCouncil#Elections builds strength.
We’re standing a full slate of dedicated candidates, meaning every voter in Southend has the opportunity to #VoteGreen again this year.
Hi, I’m James Vessey-Miller, and I’m standing for Southend City Council for the Green Party.
I’ve been a Green candidate in every Southend election since 2018, and for nearly a decade I’ve been attending council and community meetings too.

Back in Parliament this afternoon, this time with the @seegreenparty team.
My huge thanks to @natalieben and @GreenJennyJones for hosting us - and it was lovely to bump into @sianberry in central lobby too!
Yesterday, I caught up with @natalieben in the House of Lords to discuss Local Government #Devolution.
I’m grateful to her and the Greens in Parliament for meeting me to discuss this important issue.

We're pleased to announce that Kay Mitchell, who previously served as Deputy Group Leader and who was formerly a Labour Councillor in Milton ward, has joined the Green Party citing the party’s progressive and forward-thinking policies at both local and national levels. 1/4
Cllr Richard Longstaff welcomed Kay to the team,
“We’re thrilled to have Kay join us. She’s a dedicated and tireless campaigner, always holding the administration to account, and working hard for residents ..." 3/4
We can’t discount how important #Southend’s nighttime economy is as a key attraction for visitors and a significant employer of local people.
But most of our #nightlife venues have now closed, including Talk and Chameleon nightclubs, and recently Ravens, and Revolution bar.

We networked with other Green Party teams from across the country and heard from industry and policy experts on a wide range of topics.
Our team also contributed to national policy discussions and helped shape some of the new policies decided by this conference.
At the weekend, the Southend Greens represented you at the #GreenPartyConference in Manchester.
Our delegation met with the leading figures in the Green Party network and raised several local issues, including sewage pollution, chronic air quality, and local planning.
