The Green Legacy goes far beyond planting seedlings or greening our surroundings. It is a strategic national undertaking to protect, restore, and sustainably develop our natural resources while strengthening the foundations of Ethiopia’s long-term development.

This great national movement is strengthening our resilience to the impacts of climate change, restoring degraded ecosystems, and transforming Ethiopia into a greener and more productive land.

The achievements of recent years have demonstrated what Ethiopia can accomplish through national commitment, domestic capacity, and the collective action of its citizens. They have also shown that our experience can serve as an example of determined, locally driven climate action.

Protecting and restoring our natural resources is not only an environmental imperative. It is fundamental to improving agricultural productivity, achieving food self-sufficiency, creating economic opportunities, and sustaining long-term growth. For this reason, we have made the Green Legacy a central and enduring national development priority—one that strengthens both our food sovereignty and economic sovereignty.

Our generation carries a profound responsibility: to meet the needs of today while protecting and enhancing the natural wealth on which future generations will depend. We must leave behind not depleted resources, but a more prosperous, resilient, and sustainable Ethiopia.

To build a strong and reliable foundation for tomorrow’s Ethiopia, the integrated green development initiatives we have begun will continue with even greater determination, scale, and momentum.

Honored to once again join my colleague, State Minister H.E. Ambassador Berhanu Tsegaye, the management and staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and its affiliated institutions, and our brothers and sisters in Gamo Zone, Berber City (ብርብር ከተማ), for a humanitarian assistance mission in support of families displaced by the devastating natural disaster of April 2026.

Together, we are turning solidarity into meaningful action by supporting the completion of 40 homes for vulnerable families, providing educational materials and protective clothing, and planting trees under the inspiring theme, “Let Us Plant Hope.”

I warmly call upon volunteers and our partners in the diplomatic community to join us in supporting the permanent resettlement and recovery of families affected by natural disasters.

My heartfelt thoughts and solidarity are with all those affected by the landslide. May they find the strength to recover, rebuild their lives, and regain hope, dignity, and stability.

የውጭ ጉዳይ ሚኒስቴርና ተጠሪ ተቋማቱ በአፋር ክልል የሚያከናውኗቸውን 10 የአቅመ ደካሞች መኖሪያ ቤቶችና አንድ የመዋዕለ ሕፃናት ትምህርት ቤት ግንባታዎች በተያዘው የጥራት ደረጃና በተፋጠነ ጊዜ እንዲጠናቀቁ፣ ዛሬ ነሐሴ 6 ቀን 2018 ዓ.ም. ከአፋር ብሄራዊ ክልላዊ መንግስት ጋር ስምምነት ተፈራርመናል።

ፕሮጀክቶቹ ሲጠናቀቁ የወገኖቻችንን ኑሮ ለማሻሻል፣ የልጆቻችንን የነገ ሕልም ለማሳካት እና ተስፋን በተግባር ለመገንባት የሚያግዙ ዘላቂ አሻራዎቻችን ይሆናሉ።

Turning Our Commitment to Solidarity into Action!
As part of our 2018 E.C. Summer Volunteer Service, we continue to turn our commitment to Ethiopian solidarity into meaningful action.

Today, August 12, 2026, in the Afar Region, we signed an agreement with the Afar National Regional Government to ensure the timely and quality completion of 10 homes for vulnerable members of our community and one kindergarten school, being undertaken by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and its affiliated institutions.

Upon completion, these projects will leave a lasting impact—improving the living conditions of our fellow citizens, creating better opportunities for our children, and turning hope into tangible outcomes.

More importantly, this initiative demonstrates how we can transform the Ethiopian values of solidarity, cooperation, and mutual support into meaningful and lasting results.

We work together, we build together, we turn hope into reality.

State Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Hadera Abera, bid farewell to the outgoing Ambassador of Finland to Ethiopia, Sinika Antila, earlier today.

Ambassador Hadera expressed his appreciation to Ambassador Antila, for her valuable contributions to further strengthening the longstanding bilateral relations between Ethiopia and Finland. The State Minister noted that the recent political consultations marked a significant milestone, opening a new chapter for expanding cooperation, deepening economic engagement, and further strengthening diplomatic relations.

For her part, Ambassador Antila highlighted Finland's evolving development cooperation, with an increasing emphasis on investment, private sector engagement, and technological collaboration. She noted that Finnish companies are currently investing in Ethiopia in areas such as electric mobility, green energy, and emerging technologies. She also commended Ethiopia's progress in innovation, the startup ecosystem, and the energy sector, while reaffirming Finland's readiness to support environmental initiatives, preparations for COP32, and other areas of mutual interest.

Today, we launched the 6th Annual Leadership Conference Diplomatic Simulation (LCC2026 under the theme: "Green Legacy for Sustainable Development in Agriculture and Green Innovation."

Ethiopia's rise depends on the strength of its people and the stewardship of its resources. As we build a resilient and inclusive economy, we remain committed to transforming agriculture the backbone of our nation through innovation, sustainability, and productivity, strengthening food self-sufficiency while safeguarding our national dignity.

This conference brings together young leaders from across the country to exchange ideas, forge meaningful partnerships, and develop bold solutions in food sovereignty, climate resilience, and renewable energy. In doing so, we are preparing a new generation of innovators and global ambassadors who will shape Ethiopia's future and contribute to the world.

Every investment we make in our youth is an investment in the Ethiopia of tomorrow—a nation that is more prosperous, more resilient, and more united.

Today, the National Digital Transformation Council convened its meeting to review progress, set priorities, and reinforce our commitment to building a digital Ethiopia that creates opportunity for every citizen.

The Council reviewed the implementation of this year's priority initiatives and provided strategic direction to accelerate delivery where it matters most. Our discussions focused on the country's broader digital transformation agenda, the rollout of the National Digital ID, and the implementation of the 5 Million Ethiopian Coders Initiative. The Council reaffirmed that these flagship programs will continue with renewed focus, stronger coordination, and a steadfast commitment to delivering meaningful results.

We also assessed the alignment of emerging digital initiatives with the Digital Ethiopia Strategy, ensuring that every investment contributes to a coherent, secure, and future-ready digital ecosystem.

Digital transformation is not an end in itself. It is a catalyst for expanding economic opportunity, improving public services, strengthening institutions, and enabling innovation. It is about ensuring that every Ethiopian has the opportunity to participate in and benefit from the digital economy.

As we build the digital public infrastructure that will underpin our nation's future, we must be intentional about inclusion. The digital rails we are creating must connect every Ethiopian not only those in our cities, but also women, smallholder farmers, pastoralist communities, young people, entrepreneurs, and historically underserved populations. The true measure of our progress will not simply be the technology we deploy, but the opportunities we create and the lives we improve.

Ethiopia's digital transformation is gathering momentum. The National Digital Transformation Council remains committed to providing the strategic leadership needed to accelerate this journey and to ensure that our digital future is inclusive, resilient, and a source of shared prosperity for all Ethiopians.

ክቡር የውጭ ጉዳይ ሚኒስትርን፣ የጎረቤት አገራት አምባሳደሮችን፣ ሁሉንም የመ /ቤታችንና ተጠሪ ተቋማት የሥራ ኃላፊዎችንና ባልደረቦችን ያሳተፈ ስኬታማ የችግኝ ተከላ መርሃ-ግብር ዛሬ ሀምሌ 25 ቀን 2018 ዓ.ም በቢሾፍቱ አካሂደናል። የዘንድሮውን የችግኝ ተከላ መርሃ-ግብር ልዩ የሚያደርገው ሙሉ በሙሉ ፍራፍሬዎችና ምግብ ነክ የሆኑ ችግኞች ላይ ትኩረት ማድረጉ ሲሆን በዕለቱም 4063 (አራት ሺህ ስልሳ ሶስት) የአቮካዶ፣ ዘይቱን፣ ብርቱካን እና ሮማን የመሳሰሉ ጠቃሚ የችግኝ ዓይነቶች ተተክለዋል። የተከናወነው የችግኝ ተከላ መርሃ-ግብር አካባቢን ከአየር ንብረት ለውጥ ከመጠበቅ ባለፈ፣ በሂደት ለሃገራችን የምግብ ዋስትና መረጋገጥ የራሱን አስተዋጽኦ ያበረክታል።

ከዚህም በተጨማሪ አገራችን በ2020 ዓ.ም የመጀመሪያ ወራት በምታስተናግደው 32ኛው የዓለም አየር ንብረት ለውጥ ጉባዔ (COP32) ላይ ለመሳተፍ ወደ አገራችን ለሚመጡ ከፍተኛ ቁጥር ያላቸው የውጭ እንደግዶች ቢሾፍቱ ከተማ ተጨማሪ ማረፊያ ሆና የምታገለግል በመሆኗ የተከናወነው የችግኝ ተከላ ከተማዋንና ዋና ዋና መተላለፊያ መንገዶቿን ጽዱ፣ አረንጓዴና ማራኪ በማድረግ የሃገራችንን መልካም ገጽታ በዲፕሎማሲው መድረክ ይበልጥ ከፍ ለማድረግ ከፍተኛ ሚና ይኖረዋል።

I had the honor of joining our Honorable Minister, alongside esteemed Ambassadors from neighboring countries and our dedicated leadership and staff from MoFA and its affiliated institutions, for this year’s Green Legacy campaign today in Bishoftu, where we successfully planted 4,063 (four thousand sixty-three) seedlings, today, the 1st of August 2026. This year’s initiative stands out for its exclusive focus on agroforestry and food security, featuring nutrient-rich fruit varieties such as avocado, guava, orange, and pomegranate. This strategic initiative goes beyond combating climate change; it directly strengthens our nation's agricultural sovereignty and contributes significantly to long-term food security.

Additionally, this campaign plays a vital role in preparing Ethiopia to host the prestigious 32nd UN Climate Change Conference (COP32). As Bishoftu serves as a key hospitality hub for the anticipated influx of international delegates and dignitaries, this planting drive transforms the city and its main transit corridors into clean, green, and visually stunning spaces, thereby promoting Ethiopia's positive image throughout the climate conference.
