@DennisJensen62@AlastairClimate@ElPhantasmogoro@simonahac@ConservationWA just seems that the occasional, self-nominated, free market enthusiast appears on the scene who doesn’t understand power market operations, trends and realities. not in the slightest.
& can’t price subsidies, eg uncosted impact of CC to save himself — let alone the rest of us
@DennisJensen62@AlastairClimate@ElPhantasmogoro@simonahac@ConservationWA so the market gets it. fossil fuels are on the way out and quickly with it on commercial factors in the first instance and for climate, air quality, public health and ecological reasons besides the dollar cost of burning FF.
GHG & air pollution have much higher long run costs.
@EnergyWrapAU your point was that it would only increase NSW power prices when our point was inter-connectors flow both ways and the bulk of the energy on SA interconnectons is export not import. in order to support your claimed you’d need data and a model to show its a net cost to NSW.
#sustainableenergynow will be holding a SEN Presents event on the 15th May at City West Lotteries House on Concentrated Solar. See https://t.co/wHTTzJDlCM
Tomorrow the European Parliament will decide whether fossil gas and nuclear will be considered "sustainable" in the EU taxonomy. But no amount of lobbyism and greenwashing will ever make it "green".
We desperately need real renewable energy, not false solutions. #NotMyTaxonomy
@Dr_Keefer why replicate the characteristics of thermal generation? you wouldn’t want to, two thirds of energy is wasted and units like coal and CCGT have inflexible operational limits.
demand is not flat. grid orchestration of various technologies has always been necessary. that’s the key
@jamesbozwell@Dr_Keefer@VicGovAu@LilyDAmbrosioMP we model energy grids including for high penetrations of RE & storage.
that’s how engineering works. you set a goal, you work the calculations until you find a critical oath to a goal. there’s several states around the world already at 100% RE, what VIC aimed for is achetable.
@Dr_Keefer emissions from burning gas are worse than coal in the near term if upstream (scope 2 & 3) methane emissions >3% (and often they're well above that)
also, coal emits short term cooling GHGs—aerosol Short Lived Climate Pollutants (SLCP)—which amounts to 0.2 ºC or more of masking.
@Dr_Keefer@VicGovAu@LilyDAmbrosioMP I think it's on you to establish that @LilyDAmbrosioMP and the Victorian Dept Energy, Sustainability & Environment… are ignorant on energy matters @Dr_Keefer.
what do you mean by “replace easily”? it's about political & commercial intent — not insurmountable technical barriers.
@Dr_Keefer ever heard of 5 minute demand period modelling, Chris?
it's how you ensure you can hit your target of RE and what level of generation and storage is required to do it.
it's not rocket science and the @VicGovAu@LilyDAmbrosioMP know what they are doing.
pls stop deflecting.
@EnergyWrapAU that' Electranet talking economics. beancounters make decision to approve.
fact is SA wind & SA solarPV are cheaper and so will displace gas & coal whenever they are available in the merit order dispatch. be it in SA or VIC or NSW, or even QLD & TAS via NSW & VIC respectively.
@simonahac at what cost though to our body politic and general well-being is this read-guard action, trench-warfare from the mainstream media towards anything resembling progress on any given issue, most of all the climate crisis?
it's a cynical use of "attack as best defence"…not healthy
@NoPoke@rafty40@ToddMargo2 yes, serious. same applies to energy. collectively we are profligate in our energy use. we will not meet 2.0 ºC targets without a combination of RE *and* significant energy efficiency and less energy consumption.
we model energy grids, SWIS doesn't have links to other states.
