Blown away by the learning @CBCE21. While discussing when teachers are not socio-politically conscious, “Your choice of neutrality is in itself a political position.” - @DrCamikaRoyal #CBCE21
“Once educators, educational leaders...are ready to define or redefine the institution of schooling, they’ll be able to work on alleviating the long standing problems faced by marginalized Ss, by Black kids” Dr. Alston @CBCE21 #CBCE21@BLMAtSchool
Yes! Let’s focus on what was gained. And, all of the losses that occurred in the past year, this is the least of my concerns. We need to build our kids up.
Elena Ashburn, speaking for NC Principal of the Year & Teacher of the Year winners, asks General Assembly to raise starting teacher salary to $40,000, increase each teacher salary step by 7% & increase min. salary for school support staff to $15 an hour. #nced#ncpol#ncga#wcpss
“George Floyd was investing in people long before he became a global name...” His death should not be in vain. We must fight the bans on teaching systemic racism and lift up our Black community, for our Ss. @BLMAtSchool#GeorgeFloyd https://t.co/l9hCHl9IWL
Yes, all of this, yes. “our obsessive need to measure academic progress and loss to the decimal point—an enterprise that feels at once comfortably scientific and hopelessly subjective—is also woefully out of tune with the moment” https://t.co/lSIjc4SX4i
“WHEN ARE WE GOING TO LET BLACK CHILDREN IN ON AMERICA’S BEST KEPT SECRET?” - from @PrincipalKafele (rest of post below). Fellow educators, if you haven’t considered this, it would be worthwhile to do so.
As part of #WomensHistoryMonth, my Ss learned about @maejemison. If they could ask her any one question, it would be “When you joined #nasa, did people doubt you b/c of your skin color? If so, what was that like?”
A math game that helped her as a child inspired a game company to #educate others about systemic #racism . Can’t wait to see the amazing things our Ss create as they overcome learning in a pandemic & time of political unrest. #BLM https://t.co/YG6qAw4SRt
@PhilEchols@jtalmarode@WCPSSProfLearn I wish there was a way to measure their learning gain. Ss have risen to the occasion demonstrating growth in technology and communication skills, flexibility, organization... I imagine these benefits will outweigh any losses, preconceived or otherwise, in the long run.
@mochamomma No, not since I learned the origin of the word. I saw it on a form the other day and was taken aback that it’s still so widely used. When I mentioned it to the organization, they seemed genuinely shocked. This is a good reminder to follow up and see if they have made a change.
I bet that if you asked most people to name inventions they would not want to live without, a cell phone would be on that list. https://t.co/k1NlCDsBOt #BlackHistoryMonth2021
