San Francisco's DA has a "pattern & practice" of withholding evidence in criminal trials, say the city's public defenders.
They've tracked 50 such cases. Sometimes, evidence was withheld until the eve of a trial. In a few, it was revealed well into it.

"Prosecutors are rarely disciplined for breaches of professional ethics, so this decision by the State Bar ordering District Attorney Brooke Jenkins to take corrective action, speaks volumes." - Mano Raju, @sfdefender. 3/6
The State Bar has decided the best way to resolve a series of ethics complaints against SF DA Brooke Jenkins is by requiring her to participate in a diversion program. The irony is not lost on her critics https://t.co/SxI6QDdnky

@sfstandard: @sfdefender — The past 2+ years of the resurgent war on drugs — including this past week’s nighttime raid of a park — has been driving up jail populations but not ensuring that treatment options are available for those who want and need it.
Attorneys in our @sfdefender Misdemeanor Unit spoke w/@CalMatters about the increased number of charges the DA has for "illegal lodging" but none of these cases have gone to trial yet. Meanwhile, our clients are having to risk everything, at times, just to make it to court dates.
If Twohands is convicted of illegal camping, a misdemeanor, he could face a year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000. But even without jail, trials come with all sorts of additional risks and hardship for unhoused defendants. https://t.co/uv7D6ENxKV

Cities across California increasingly are clearing away homeless encampments and citing and arresting the people who live in them. What does that mean for people who sleep on the street? @KatieAnastas from @KPBS and I spent months finding out. @CalMatters https://t.co/9auNqVhtgR
Police Commissioner @MaxMCO says, “My job is not to become popular with the agency I’m supposed to be overseeing….I will continue to fight for an independent police commission separate from influence.”
@sfdefender@ManoRajuPD speaking at a rally in support of Police Commissioner
“Removing him from the Commission would be a step back for justice in #SanFrancisco”
Assistant Chief Attorney for the @sfdefender@angelafchan “What we don’t need are commissioners who are in the pocket of police unions…we should appoint more commissioners like @MaxMCO.”
