🚨NEW #QualitativeResearch by Napier et al:
👟 Are running shoes really made for women? 🏃♀️✨
A new qualitative study dives into the running footwear needs of women — and finds that most current shoe designs still don’t match women’s real preferences or biomechanics.
🔍 In focus groups with 21 women runners (ages 20–70) in Vancouver:
💬 Runners prioritised comfort, fit, and injury prevention.
👣 Many wanted a wider toe box, narrower heel, and more cushioning.
🤰 Women shared how shoe needs change during pregnancy, postpartum, and aging, with shifts toward stability and comfort over style.
The findings call for inclusive, evidence-based co-design of women-specific running shoes — made by and for women runners at every life stage.

SFU Run Lab will be on site at the Pacific Distance Carnival this weekend using motion capture analysis to gather data from runners in the 5000m/10,000m running & 10,000m race walk events! Athletes check your email for consent forms. Good luck to all those competing!
Setting up a biomechanics lab on a race course in the desert was a novel experience for us! We learned a ton in the process and we are working hard to process the 144 hours of results!!! Looking forward to getting these results to you @runcamille!
Did you decide you would take up running in 2024? Or run more?

Fantastic range of speakers and topics. I’m looking forward to presenting our latest research on the use of wearable tech to monitor running biomechanics in the wild! 🏃🏻♀️ 🏃🏽♂️
💯 & this doesn't end at supplements. Foam rolling, stretching, "alternative treatments" - everything has a cost. Some of those may be justified at times, but if it is taking time/money away from more effective approaches then it is harmful in my view.
🚨 Online Symposium 🚨
Ten sessions of sports biomechanics over two days, free for ISBS members (remember to renew for 2024)!
