Hero alert: A 14-year-old Montana boy just saved a drowning man with a lasso on his very first throw.

Jory Thomas was camping with his family near Greycliff on July 5 when a raft and paddleboard slammed into a bridge pillar.

Four people went into the river. Three made it out. One man kept drifting downstream, clinging to a cooler and calling for help.

Jory emptied his pockets, ran through a waist-deep channel, and sprinted down the bank. This year, for the first time, he had brought his 12-foot lariat.

He threw. “Luckily, I caught him first try.”

He roped the man and pulled him through chest-deep water all the way to shore, holding on until first responders arrived. His dad and brothers serve on the local fire department. Jory knew waiting wasn’t an option.

His grandmother said they had camped at that spot for years and he had never brought the rope before. “And that day he did.”

A kid who spends his free time practicing on a dummy in the backyard just became the reason a man is still alive.

This is the America that still exists. Make this kid famous.
