President @edmnangagwa has announced that Zimbabwe will construct its own State House, moving away from the colonial-era building currently used as the official presidential residence.

“Zimbabwe will be building its own State House and leave the one which was built by colonialists,” he said.

The 90-day public consultation period for the Constitutional Amendment Number 3 Bill closes this Monday at midnight, paving the way for Parliament to commence formal legislative processes on the proposed amendments.

Zimsports4ED yesterday made a landmark presentation to Parliament in Mount Hampden, submitting thousands of written endorsements and signatures collected from sports fans, athletes, administrators, youths and stakeholders from all sporting disciplines across Zimbabwe’s ten provinces in overwhelming support of Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3 (CAB3). The submissions were officially handed over by the organisation’s National Chairman, Cde Spencer Machangara, Vice Chairman Cde Benedict Ncube and Secretary General Cde Hlongolani Zendani on the eve of the closure of the historic 90-day nationwide public consultation process. The gesture underscored the sports fraternity’s unanimous commitment to the proposed constitutional changes as a vital pillar in advancing national development and the attainment of Vision 2030.

Speaking to the media after the handover, Cde Machangara said CAB3 would strengthen political stability and continuity, creating an enabling environment for the growth of sporting infrastructure, talent identification and increased sponsorship across all sporting codes. Cde Ncube hailed the transformative leadership of His Excellency President Dr Emmerson Mnangagwa, noting that the Second Republic has inspired greater confidence among investors, as demonstrated by the record-breaking US$25 million sponsorship of the Munhumutapa Challenge Cup over five years. He said sport remains a powerful vehicle for promoting healthy lifestyles, creating employment and steering young people away from drug and substance abuse, adding that Parliament should now move swiftly to pass CAB3 in recognition of the overwhelming support expressed by Zimbabweans....🐊✊

Gwayi-Shangani Project Construction Pace

The construction of ancillary infrastructure for the Gwayi-Shangani Lake project is indeed picking up speed, with Booster Pump Station Three in Tsholotsho District currently on track for completion by the end of 2026.

This pump station is a critical component of the 252km Gwayi-Shangani-Bulawayo pipeline, which aims to provide a permanent solution to the perennial water shortages in Bulawayo and create a "green belt" through irrigation projects in Matabeleland North.

### Key Project Updates (as of mid-2026):
✍🏽Project Completion: The overall dam project is approximately 75% complete.
✍🏽Funding: The Government has committed to a monthly allocation of US$5 million to ensure the project meets its 2026 deadline.
✍🏽Pipeline Progress: Work on the pipeline is being carried out by 11 different contractors to expedite the laying of pipes and construction of booster stations across the route.
✍🏽Ancillary Works: In addition to Booster Pump Station Three, work is also advancing on the 10-Megawatt Hydro-power Station at the dam site, which was reported to be over 78% complete earlier this year.

Once finished, Lake Gwayi-Shangani will become the third-largest inland water body in Zimbabwe, after Tugwi-Mukosi and Lake Mutirikwi.

In an interview with the media after her swearing-in, Chief Justice Elizabeth Gwaunza revealed that she grew up during a time when the girlchild faced significant challenges in accessing education. She noted that even when girls were granted the opportunity to attend school, circumstances such as teenage pregnancies often disrupted their educational progress.

The Chief Justice, however, commended her father for supporting her education and enabling her to pursue studies up to tertiary level.

Responding to how she would deal with claims and accusations that the judiciary is captured, Chief Justice Gwaunza stated that she is not new to the judicial system, where she has professionally carried out her duties over the years. She urged judges to execute their responsibilities professionally and to ignore public sentiments, emphasizing that judicial officers should not work to please people, but rather to deliver professional outcomes guided by a clear conscience.

Chief Justice Elizabeth Gwaunza has served as Deputy Chief Justice of Zimbabwe since March 2018 before her recent appointment as Chief Justice. Her elevation to the top judicial office follows several years of experience in the country’s judiciary, during which she held senior judicial responsibilities and contributed to the administration of justice.
