“My political creed is that despotism … or absolute power is the same [whether] in a majority of a popular assembly; an aristocratic council; or oligarchical junto and a single emperor - equally arbitrary, cruel, bloody and in every respect diabolical.” -John Adams
This is an ignorant statement. The vast, vast majority of wars in human history have ended in some form of negotiated settlement, not total conquest of one party by the other.
@ChrisLoesch Say what you will about her theories, but she's always maintained that our own government was part of this vast conspiracy, as well as Israel.
@j_fishback Even if it's true, it still has you doing almost twice as good as the actual Lieutenant Governor of a state, which is itself pretty impressive.
@SnowLizard2000@megbasham We shouldn’t make laws and judgments based on group statistics and probability. We would probably save a lot of lives if we banned all black men ages 18-45 from owning firearms, but it would still be wrong.
@cjgrvster@IAPolls2022 HW was responsible for really our only successful ground war since Korea, and though the economy slumped at the end of his term it wasn't anywhere close to the Housing Crash.
@SnowLizard2000@megbasham I'm a strong nationalist, each country should pursue whatever immigration policy it sees fit. But the acts of 2nd-gen people aren't relevant to this discussion. It is impossible to say, before they have even been born, what a person's disposition towards the law will be.
@SnowLizard2000@megbasham How far does this go? If I were to commit a crime, would that ultimately be Calvin Coolidge's fault, since 2 of my great-grandparents immigrated to America from Canada when he was President?
@SnowLizard2000@megbasham Even granting this, I’m fundamentally opposed to the idea of corruption of blood. The most fundamental principle of our justice system is individual guilt or innocence, not parents’ responsibility for their children’s crimes, or vice versa.
@megbasham To be clear, most of these cases seem to me to be appalling negligence (at best) on behalf of the authorities, and I would bring back the death penalty for many of these offenses. Just unclear about this particular point.
@megbasham Agree with most of this, but how is the British state responsible for what the *children* of migrants do? It’s impossible to look at any particular person and say what crimes his yet-to-be-born children will commit decades in the future.
It’s called a joke, and the point of a good joke is that it gets at a higher truth, in this case that you abandoned your old boss’ favorite Congressman because your paymasters in Israel told you too.
@OVTweetmarck Requiring that voters have a bare minimum of civic knowledge (i.e, requiring that they can pass a 5th grade quiz on American Government) was horribly abused during Jim Crow, but in principle there's nothing wrong with it and it should be considered.
@megbasham Correct, they weren’t infallible, just something to consider.
I do think many of the same goals could be accomplished by vigorously enforcing the ban on naturalized citizens retaining the citizenship of their birth country, which they renounced by the very terms of their oath.
