This morning, on the auspicious occasion of the Ambubachi Mela — one of India’s most revered spiritual festivals — I joined my party colleagues at the sacred Nilachal Hills to serve the countless devotees arriving at Kamakhya Dham.

The report by the Supreme Court-appointed Central Empowered Committee confirms what many feared: illegal mining in Karbi Anglong continues unchecked, in blatant violation of court orders. Kaziranga’s southern buffer is under grave ecological threat.

These mining operations were approved by the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) — despite having no legal authority to do so. Yet, KAAC saw a sharp rise in central funding in this year’s Union Budget. Its Chief Executive Member is a close and visible associate of the Chief Minister.

I have raised this issue with the Hon’ble Prime Minister before. Today, I reiterate: only a Supreme Court-monitored inquiry can uncover the full scale of this institutionalised illegality.

The BJP could not stomach the powerful rebuke given by Shri @ripunbora ji in his press conference. The PC exposed all the ludicrous and ridiculous claims of the Chief Minister.

I strongly condemn Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s decision to distribute arms to civilians in border regions of the state.

People of Assam deserve jobs, affordable healthcare, quality education, not guns.

Instead of strengthening police and border forces, the government is intent on distributing arms amongst BJP-RSS sympathisers and local criminal syndicates. This will lead to gang violence and crimes based on personal vendettas. Local businessmen and traders are bound to be harassed.

This is not governance, this is a dangerous step backwards towards lawlessness and jungle raj .

This decision reflects not public concern, but electoral concerns. The Chief Minister must reverse it immediately and focus on restoring public trust through responsible leadership.
