Bangladesh’s journey in world cricket didn’t happen by accident. In 1977, they became an ICC Associate Member. In 2000, they were granted Test status, full ICC membership.
That leap was not universally welcomed.
Australia led the opposition. England, South Africa, New Zealand followed. The argument was simple: “They’re not ready, Bangladesh shouldn’t be included.”
One man disagreed. Jagmohan Dalmiya, then ICC President, stood firm. India stood firm. Sri Lanka supported. Pakistan backed it then. Zimbabwe didn’t oppose.
Dalmiya’s belief was clear: “If Bangladesh is not given a chance, progress will never come.”
Using sheer influence and relentless lobbying, he pushed Bangladesh through.
The result?
- More ICC funding for Bangladesh
- More international matches
- Growth in infrastructure
- Exposure, experience, legitimacy
Bangladesh cricket exists at this level because someone chose to invest in their future when others shut the door.
BUT TODAY !!!!!
That same Bangladesh cricket administration is found opposing India, questioning intent, feeding narratives, and aligning with forces that historically never acted in good faith.
This isn’t about rivalry. This is about forgetting who stood with you when it mattered most, and history doesn’t change.
And when you ignore it, you don’t look bold
you look ungrateful, and Bangladeshi are ungrateful… they might realise it…. A few years later.
@sardesairajdeep Let me start with a disclaimer- I am not a fan of you. But I am ashamed with the extent of trolling you are receiving for this honest comment. Although, I disagree with some of your views, keep up the good work.
@ZubairAhmedStk@vikrantgupta73 BanglaDesh was also an associate member at one time.
In my view, Scotland is a better team than Bangladesh.
Although I would not say the same if Pakistan withdraws and is replaced by Uganda.
@saleemkhan5618@vikrantgupta73 This is an inaccurate and misleading statement. ICC had a free and fair voting on the issue because they were trying to inject politics into the game . The Tigers just did not have the support of the majority. Why villainise the BCCI?
@AustralianJA I hope that this is a wake up call, not just for Australia, but for the entire 5i group. You cannot wish away this scrounge of terrorism and delude yourself that they are indulging in “free speech”
@GreatFerah@IndiGo6E I have so far got a refund of Rs. 61 for the almost Rs. 5400 paid for the cancelled flight. Indigo now say that they have processed the complete refund, but I have not got it yet.
