On Friday 13th March 2026, Sheffield Home of Football will be revealing our first football artwork to be unveiiled by Mayor Oliver Coppard of the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority

Great to see Sheffield’s footballing history, heritage and culture celebrated in our city. We are making great headway to securing Sheffield’s position as the birthplace of modern association football. This is one of the founding fathers.

historians have amazed with their new research which reveals that football in Sheffield was more popular in the first 20 years of its development than previously recorded. Not 49 clubs but 178 clubs between 1857-1875.
