Today, politics students met our local MP, @paulscullymp, who was kind enough to spend his lunchtime being bombarded with questions. Topics included votes at 16, libertarianism, international trade, migration and, of course, Brexit. Thank you for coming! #fiercelyindependent
These 6 making me very proud today by engaging brilliantly with the lectures at #sociologyinaction and expanding their sociological imaginations beyond the curriculum. #sociology#fiercelylearning
Final talk today from @DexterDiasQC, who is talking about race, racialised thinking and institutionalised racism in the criminal justice system. #sociologyinaction
@KalwantBhopal telling us about the ways in which white privilege links to Bourdieu's theory of capital and that education has become a privilege. Her research focuses on BME students and higher education. #sociologyinaction
Reality TV and the representation of white working class women in the media from @helentellywood. She explains the ways in which poverty has become spectacle and applies Gramscian analysis to this.
So proud of our @SuttonHighGirls pupils who appeared on @itvnews discussing @TheHaloCode - we want all pupils here to be able to celebrate and express their individuality, without fear of discrimination and we were so proud to be the first school to adopt the Code last year.
Also really great to update our understanding of the way that social media can be used against people in court. Perhaps an updated labelling theory needed here...? #sociologyinaction
Really interesting to see the link here between the commodification of crime via social media and the criminalisation of young people. We're currently listening to drill music. #sociologyinaction
