@mpi_polymer Absolutely gutted to learn that Helmut Coelfen has passed away. I have known few scientists as inspirational and visionary. I met him only a few times, but was struck by his humanity - a real mensch. My deepest condolences to his family and friends.
No, that's not what this debate is about. AI/ML is important. We all want predictive, fast synthesis of materials with targeted properties. This is about maintaining minimum principles of science. When claims in a paper seem not supported by the analysis, one worries.
Abstract: "the A-Lab realized 41 novel compounds from a set of 58 targets". @Robert_Palgrave shows at least 6 'novel' compounds are likely not the claimed new structures (cif files). Cool synthesis platform, but implementation and science flaws. @Nature, retract-rewrite-resubmit?
