@AJHSLT Would charted patterns help? They give a visual representation of the stitches in grid format which directly maps to stitches on the needles. Lots of ppl print each row of the grid on a separate sheet of paper to make it easier to track - just turn the page at the end of the row

Transitioning between classes in silence? What on earth for? How is anyone meant to feel enthused about learning in this oppressive environment? We need to get used to the idea that kids are individual human beings with individual strengths and needs, not robots.
@euancrobertson @irnbru The trauma of working in Scottish Asda and having to remember all this when really it's cordial😂 Do/did the Scottish have corporation pop too, or was that just my Nan??
@euancrobertson "Did he volunteer the name, or was he asked a leading question whether that was his name?" Genuinely punched the air I love Kate so much😂 #JustSLTThings
The responses in this thread are really eye opening. There's still a huge amount of work to do in increasing understanding of the harsh realities of mental ill health and reducing shame and stigma. "Self care" is sometimes a lot more complicated than a cup of tea.
How often do we as professionals see the person in survival mode and assume that is the whole person? This is why, although I recognise that understanding behaviour can help, it is in no way the first or most important therapeutic aim. Listen and connect first.
Spent a few Xmases on my own for various reasons & can strongly recommend this thread. A solo Xmas has the potential to be the best day of the year - you have total freedom to do whatever the heck makes you happiest! Plus 2nd Xmas when you do get to see your loved ones. Win-win!
If you are suddenly facing Christmas alone, I have tips. I LOVE Christmas alone so get on board.
Food: What would you ideally like to eat if no-one could limit you or judge you? Nothing but pigs in blankets? Just cake? Pot Noodle? Get that! I’m having cheese and crackers.
@euancrobertson I hope you and your dad are both doing OK. There will be a day when this is passed and you'll get to spend time together again. Until then do whatever you need to feel OK. You've supported a lot of people this year, take some time for yourself
@ShafaqHassanSLT I honestly don't remember!! I think it was a one of the other kids at our childminders who told us all. Your question was really interesting, I guess I never thought about what an odd tradition it might seem!
Making something simpler doesn’t always mean shorter. Sometimes you make it longer to explain the concepts needed to understand the original #healthliteracy
This is so common in CAMHS. I once worked with a 16 year old who couldn't do the Following Directions test because she didn't know which shape was a triangle. It's heartbreaking.
This week I did a CELF with a 17 year old. We barely made it past the trial items. Never seen an SLT before and labelled shy, anxious and odd for years. How has no one thought to check out why conversation, school and college might have been such a struggle?!

Speech and language therapists being recognised for their key role in supporting communication & capacity decisions & finally able to train as Approved Mental Capacity Professionals (AMCP) - well done everyone who helped as campaign for this #slpeeps#SLTs#MentalCapacity@RCSLT
