Several arrested for anti-ICE riot at Maple Grove hotel

Several people were arrested overnight Monday to Tuesday following a large anti-ICE demonstration at a Maple Grove hotel that spiraled into property damage and refusal to disperse, police said.

A crowd began gathering Monday evening at the SpringHill Suites by Marriott in the Arbor Lakes area on the belief that Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) Commander Gregory Bovino and other CBP agents were staying at the hotel.

Livestreams showed participants engaging in property damage as well as noise demonstrations outside the hotel.

Feds announce arrests of Minneapolis area rioters for allegedly assaulting, impeding law enforcement

Among those arrested was Nasra Ahmed, who appeared at a press conference last week alongside Democratic lawmakers and claimed she was assaulted, kidnapped, and called a racial slur by ICE.

“I’m proud to say that I survived ICE,” she said. “Many people are saying, including my family and friends, that I will go down in history.”

In a moment that has since gone viral, she went on to say that “being Somali isn’t just eating bananas and rice.” Instead, she said “it’s like a cultural fusion, it’s kind of like the bananas and rice.”
