I believe the soul purpose of the songwriter is to make people feel like they are not alone. For most of us, Love is why we exist. And as Leonard Cohen says in “The Future “ Love is engine of survival. That is why the love song is so important. We are have been saying the same thing for decades, just in a new way. That is our job. People want a soul mate, want to break the chains of an abusive relationship, want hope when they’ve been left , want to celebrate when they found that one person, want to probe the existential questions of what we are made for…etc . No one is really interested in our diaries ….they are interested in THEIR diaries (a lot of time both are the same)! We all want that song that becomes OUR song. Great artists have great creative purposes and each of my friends at this roundtable do, which is why you all are loved all over the world. I am grateful to be amongest so many powerhouse women representing the highest levels of the craft. Having this conversation made me relive when I first decided to be a songwriter after over a decade of honing the craft of instrumental performance and music composition. it was at the age of 21 that the work of William Shakespeare prompted me to delve deeper into lyric writing and the power of spinning a narrative through song —ultimately the power of putting words and structure to the vulnerability that i already had a command of on my instrument. Now another more than decade long journey of synthesizing all sides of my artistry, and a lot of living through life's highs and lows, I've been able to write songs like "Butterfly" and "It Never Went Away" . I really had such a great time at this table. Thank you @thr
