Welcome to the Workshop! Here you will find lots of Super Mario Kart related information!
We work with prototypes, reverse engineering, hacking, and other fun SMK stuff, so be sure to check us out and follow us!
Important links and info nested below!
Development files reveal that Super Mario Kart used to contain "Grass That Doesn't Slow You Down", which defeats the entire purpose of offroad grass in a racing game. The developers clearly had a low opinion of it, calling it "unnessesaly" [sic] in the code before removing it.
Meet LuEAgi, a program that learns to play Super Mario Kart with minimal information via an evolutionary algorithm! The best part? You can watch it learn LIVE! :D
Come check it out, I'll be streaming for a few days so come hang out and watch!

Super Mario Kart - Horizons is finally here!
This new comprehensive hack ups the ante of the base game with beautiful visuals, a brand new soundtrack and unlockables, and stretches the limits of what’s possible “vanilla style”!

Frankly that animation is easier to describe, but it doesn't give much insight into the actual function itself. This one gets more to why the function is so good, and is interpreted from coordinate-space to color space instead of following a pixel to see where it goes
Super Mario Kart's PRNG function visual!
With this, you can see a more broken-down animation of how SMK's PRNG works. Follow a pixel from its starting point to it's end-point to see where a seed value will go after one full iteration of the function.
Development files for Super Mario Kart contain early localization graphics for the English version of the game, including a version where Bowser is called "Bowsew", as seen below.
More interesting SMK PRNG stuff:
This is a visualization of the input->output of the PRNG function. px coord is the current value (high byte is row, low byte is col), output is the px color (high byte is red channel, low byte is blue channel).
