While other opposition figures have openly challenged Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, Nabad iyo Nolol has largely maintained a restrained position, alongside continued political contacts with Villa Somalia.

Political sources say Villa Somalia may view Farmaajo as a more acceptable alternative than Said Deni or Sheikh Sharif, amid concerns over their Gulf relationships.

More significantly, there are claims of a broader understanding: Farmaajo could return to Villa Somalia, followed by a longer-term transition toward a northern Somali president, potentially from Somaliland.

🚨 Regional Alignment #Egypt, #Somalia, #Eritrea and #Sudan issue joint declaration

The four leaders concluded a quadrilateral summit in New El Alamein, reaffirming sovereignty, territorial integrity and closer political coordination across the Horn of Africa and Red Sea region.

The joint declaration rejected recognition or support for Somaliland, backed Somalia’s counterterrorism efforts and called for sustained international funding for AUSSOM.

On Sudan, the leaders backed the country’s unity and national institutions, rejected parallel governing entities and called for a Sudanese-led political process.

The declaration also affirmed that Red Sea governance is the responsibility of littoral states and rejected unilateral measures affecting the Nile waters.

A significant four-country coordination framework is taking shape around the Horn, Red Sea and wider regional security architecture.

Türkiye is positioning itself at the center of Somalia’s emerging strategic development corridor. 🇹🇷🇸🇴

Türkiye’s new Ambassador to Somalia, Ferhat Alkan, and TURKSOM Commander Maj. Gen. Sabahattin Kalkan, led a delegation to Warsheekh, Middle Shabelle, where they inspected the site of Türkiye’s planned satellite launch and space facility.

Turkey and Somalia are expected to conduct the first satellite launch from the site in 2027 a milestone that could mark a new chapter in the country’s space ambitions.

At the same time, plans for a major port, special economic zone and industrial facilities near Warsheekh are advancing under the proposed “New Mogadishu” development project.

Space, maritime infrastructure and industry are converging potentially giving Somalia a new strategic gateway on the Indian Ocean while deepening Türkiye’s long-term economic and strategic presence in the Horn of Africa.

For the first time since the civil war, the Federal Government has appointed a commander for the @SNAForce 26th Division, based in the Northeast.

Lt. Col. Abdirahman Awad Baalcadde has been appointed to lead the division.

Baalcadde is among the Somali officers trained in Eritrea and has also served with the Somali Navy.

The appointment puts new leadership at the helm of one of the SNA’s key regional formations.

Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has met Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on the sidelines of the Alamein Africa Forum, with the two leaders discussing bilateral relations and matters of mutual interest.

But one detail caught my attention: Somalia’s Air Force Commander, Brig. Gen. Abdirisaq Mahmoud Haji, is also part of the Somali delegation in Egypt and appears in the background during the meeting.

His presence comes as Mogadishu and Cairo continue expanding military and security cooperation, including efforts to develop Somalia’s Air Force.
