Congratulations to Class 174 who graduated yesterday from the JIBC Police Academy! Saanich PD had five recruits who successfully completed their training. We are so proud of them and excited for them to get back to their shifts and continue to serve the community of Saanich! 🎓🚓
Earlier, we visited the Issamba Centre and spent time with founder Pulchérie Mboussi and manager Cobb Carbonel, talking about the importance of diversity & representation. Pulchérie and Cobb told us of the many community programs and cultural events Issamba organizes, showcasing Black authors, music and food. Pulchérie said, “We try to bring the diverse African and Caribbean communities together.” She also mentioned Issamba’s recent ‘Black in BC’ leadership summit, which took place in Vancouver and featured Cst. Alex Omoding as a guest speaker @VicAfriCaFest #blackhistorymonth #saanichpolice @SPD_Recruiting
Cst. Alex Omoding moved to Canada from Uganda in 1996 and became a police officer in 2009. He joined the Saanich Police in 2020 and currently serves in the Community Engagement division. Cst. Alex, as he is called by the youth of Saanich, is well known across the community for his compassion, approachability and ready laugh.
Last Monday, Cst. Alex, with CSO Kanojia, gave a presentation to Pacific Christian School students. He told them that he became a police officer because “Representation matters,” and he left them with the inspirational message, “Be true to your identity and don't doubt your abilities."

Is it possible these headlights are mounted high enough that they shine directly into the side view mirror? A headlamp can be mounted up to 137 cm high.
