Seattle is preparing to host the world. Public safety can’t wait.
CCTV cameras are a proven tool that help officers identify suspects, solve violent crimes, and protect residents, businesses, and visitors in real time.
Councilmembers Bob Kettle and Rob Saka agree: Seattle should move forward with the CCTV rollout before the World Cup.
Mayor Katie: turn the cameras on.

Another heartbreaking reminder that there is no such thing as a “routine” call in law enforcement.
Deputy Logan Utt was murdered while responding to a welfare check. We are grateful the suspect is now in custody, but our thoughts and prayers remain with Deputy Utt’s family, friends, and fellow deputies.
Every shift, officers answer calls not knowing what dangers await them. Please keep all law enforcement officers in your prayers.

Charlie understands:
Official “Clipgate” timeline:
• SPOG posted publicly available CCTV video from KOMO showing a Capitol Hill shooting.
• Our point was simple: surveillance cameras help officers catch violent criminals.
• Mayor Katie’s office demanded the post be removed, falsely claiming it was private law enforcement video.
• When informed the video was public, they doubled down and threatened policy violations against an independent police union.
• SPOG pushed back with a cease-and-desist letter.
• The mayor’s office retracted their demands.
Now the video Katie didn’t want you to see has been viewed more than 1 million times - https://t.co/A5vo0HPZ34

Five months of Mayor Katie Wilson: a Starbucks boycott, a chief of staff out, the homelessness lead resigned, a cease-and-desist from the police union, and an official video with a high-five to a disembodied hand. @kirocharlie shares how reality is catching up in real time.
Mayor Katie didn’t want the public to see this video and tried to pressure SPOG into taking it down.
Instead, it just hit 1 million views.
Freedom of speech for the win.

Mayor Katie, how many more examples do you need?
Don’t take away the vital tools officers rely on to identify, locate, and apprehend violent criminals in our city.

After a brief review of the First Amendment, the Mayor’s Office has retracted its request that SPOG remove our post.
They also said they “Look forward to working with the police union in the future.”
Freedom of Speech: 1

Staff at the Seattle Mayor's office told the police union to delete a social media post that criticized her after a shooting earlier this month.
“We’re not changing our tone or rhetoric, we’re not going or be threatened or intimidated.”

WATCH: On May 17, SFPD officers locate a robbery suspect within minutes of the crime. RTIC tracks the suspect through the Tenderloin as they meet with 2 suspected fences. Officers arrived and swiftly placed all 3 suspects into custody.

Seattle should be paying attention.
In Austin, three teens are accused of a violent crime spree involving stolen vehicles, shootings, and four victims. Police say license plate-reader technology could have helped track them down faster.
This is why SPOG supports CCTV and ALPR tools. They help cops stop violent criminals before more people get hurt.
Mayor Katie, Seattle needs more public safety tools - not fewer. @MayorofSeattle

“...the rape, the assault, the murder. This is Katie’s Seattle, and it’s only going to get worse. As the tax base flees Seattle, public safety resources will dry up, and then people will be really unsafe.”

“Mayor Katie shouldn’t be proud of raising taxes while Seattle’s business outlook continues to weaken. Public safety depends on stable resources, and those resources come from a strong, diverse tax base. Seattle should be attracting businesses, not driving them away. A safer, stronger city starts with an economy that allows everyone to flourish.”

This Police Week, SPOG proudly honors the brave men and women who wear the badge and serve with courage, integrity, and sacrifice.
We remember the officers who gave everything in the line of duty, and we stand with the families, partners, and departments who carry their legacy forward.

Happy Mother’s Day from the Seattle Police Officers Guild.
Today, we honor the moms who serve, support, and inspire. Behind every great officer is often a mother, wife, grandmother, sister, or motherly figure whose love, strength, and sacrifice helped shape the person behind the badge.
To all the incredible moms in our law enforcement family and throughout Seattle, thank you.

"We're not trying to pile onto Mayor Katie right now, but with so many disturbing examples of CCTV cameras helping to solve violent crime in Seattle, and horrific stories like this one, where cameras may have prevented another tragedy - we're respectfully asking her to change her position on CCTV cameras and expand them before the World Cup comes to Seattle".
