CERN’s year-end-technical stop (YETS) starts today, and it marked the end of the #LHCRun3 for the year. Here’s the full list of what we achieved during this run⬇️
Born #OnThisDay in 1867 was Marie Skłodowska–Curie, the first woman to win a Nobel Prize, the only woman to win twice and the only person to win a Nobel Prize in two disciplines: Physics for her work on radioactivity, and Chemistry for her discovery of radium and polonium.
🔔New IceCube results to be published in @ScienceMag tomorrow!
For the first time, IceCube found evidence of high-energy neutrino emission from NGC 1068, an active galaxy in the constellation Cetus and one of the most familiar and well-studied galaxies. #IceCubeNGC1068
Fluxional Notation
Isaac Newton regarded all varying quantities as flowing quantities. He called fluxion the rate of flowing - he used the dotted notation to refer to it.
Adopting his fluxional notation we can write mechanical equations considering x as a flowing quantity:
1/ This Hubble picture of the week shows two galaxies in the galactic triplet Arp 248 or Wild’s Triplet. The two large spiral galaxies visible in this image flank a smaller, unrelated spiral galaxy and appear connected by a luminous bridge.
