The Pink Panther “Does your dog bite?” gag was already 80 years old when Peter Sellers did it.
It’s an old vaudeville joke from the late 1800s, and it lands because the “Zimmer” line disarms you first. Plus Graham Stark was Sellers’ best friend; the timing was years in the making
Gene Kelly didn’t want to sing “Singin’ in the Rain” on The Muppet Show.
Kermit took that as a challenge and made it the plot, coaxing him into it anyway.
It was the last episode they ever filmed, and the last time Gene performed it.
A poignant goodbye to the song and The Muppets
Remembering the late, great Dolly, who brought joy, comfort and inspiration to so many - including the millions of children given free books through her Imagination Library. We will always ❤️ you.
The Coen Brothers made THE ODYSSEY long before Christopher Nolan. O BROTHER, WHERE ART THOU? (2000) is one of the funniest and most inventive modern retellings of Homer’s epic ever put on screen.
This is real footage from 120 years ago.
None of the people in it knew that the city around them had four days left...
What you are watching is a cable car gliding down Market Street in San Francisco, filmed on the 14th of April, 1906.
The camera was mounted on the front of the car, so you see the city exactly as it was: the crowds, the horse-drawn carriages, the early automobiles weaving through traffic, the men in hats, the great buildings rising on either side. An ordinary spring afternoon in a thriving American city.
Four days later, on the morning of the 18th of April, a magnitude 7.9 earthquake struck. The shaking lasted under a minute, but it ignited fires that burned through the city for days...
By the time it was over, more than 3,000 people were dead and roughly 80 percent of San Francisco had been destroyed. Almost every building you see in this footage was gone.
And the film itself nearly went with it.
The negative was placed on a train bound for New York on the 17th of April, the day before the earthquake. Had it left a single day later, it would have burned in the fire along with the studio that made it.
This entire moving record of a lost city survives because of one day...
I saw so many of these as a kid, they freaked me out but I loved them 💙
There was a fantastic scene in one where all I remember is the humans watching a tiny horse riding in a corral - and by tiny I mean Barbie sized. I've never been able to find it since, I must have been five
Dire Straits 🎼Down to the Waterline (Live Rockpop 1980)
Sweet surrender on the quayside
You remember we used to run and hide
In the shadow of the cargoes I take you one time
And we're counting all the numbers down to the waterline
Near misses on the dog leap stairways
French kisses in the darkened doorways
A foghorn blowing out wild and cold
A policeman shines a light upon my shoulder
Up comes a coaster fast and silent in the night
Over my shoulder all you can see are the pilot lights
No money in our jackets and our jeans are torn
Your hands are cold but your lips are warm
She can see him on the jetty where they used to go
She can feel him in the places where the sailors go
When she's walking by the river and the railway line
She can still hear him whisper, "Let's go down to the waterline"
Come on 🎸
