Developing skilled nurses and serving communities through Red Cross ⚪🔴
This morning, the Central Governing Board Committee meetings of the Uganda Red Cross Society have kicked off, with the Finance, Audit & Resource Mobilisation Committee meeting currently underway.
This marks the beginning of a week-long governance cycle that will bring together the various Board Committees, culminating in the full Central Governing Board meeting on Friday, 14 August 2026.
For us, this is a strong reflection of good governance in action—where oversight, accountability, financial stewardship, risk management, resource mobilisation and strategic direction are considered systematically before decisions reach the full Board.
Effective governance is not only about the meeting of the Board; it is about the work that happens before the Board sits—the scrutiny, questioning, analysis, assurance and collective responsibility of its committees.
As Uganda Red Cross Society continues to strengthen its sustainability and impact, robust governance remains central to building trust, protecting resources and ensuring that every decision ultimately advances our humanitarian mandate and the communities we serve.
A productive week of governance, accountability and strategic leadership ahead.

Burundi is stepping up preparedness as the Ebola outbreak caused by the Bundibugyo strain continues to evolve in neighbouring DRC and Uganda.
With border communities, travel routes and urban centres at heightened risk, the @IFRC_DREF operation will support the Burundi Red Cross Society (@croix_rougebdi) to strengthen early detection, community awareness and readiness in high-risk areas.
Over the next two months, volunteers will support risk communication, community-based surveillance and preparedness planning to help reduce the risk of disease importation and protect communities.
