🚨Tensions in Sanaag have been high over the past two days as angry citizens take to the streets to protest the death of Nabaddoon Cumar whom they believe was killed in a Puntland sanctioned airstrike by the UAE because of his refusal to go along with the illegal mining of minerals in Northern Sanaag by Emirati corporations.

🚨Waqooyi Bari State subsidizes education as it inches closer to rolling out Free education in the state.

The ministry of education has partnered with and sent teachers to 12 primary schools and 1 highschool across Laascaanood and Buuhoodle to make school fees more affordable. The subsidized fee has been set at $5 per student.

This fee will be in effect until a second batch of teachers finish their training at Nugaal University of Laascaanood to then replace the non-state-paid-teachers at those schools.

Investing in the youth and the future of the state is a much needed development as the state starts to shape its identity.

The first round of elections for the presidency of North East State of Somalia (NESS) has concluded with the following official results:

The top two candidates will advance to the second round of elections. The winner will need a total of 42 votes.

Former United States Ambassador to Somalia, Larry André’s thoughts on granting the secessionist entity in North-western Somalia recognition:

“Consider Relevant Facts:

‼️Much of the rhetoric concerning Somaliland status is dishonest. Those making arguments on either side of the question often purposely make false statements and edit out facts that counter their view. Here are some facts I consider relevant to our policy review.

· The Isaaq clan accounts for roughly 2/3s of Somaliland’s population. Somaliland independence is overwhelmingly supported by the Isaaq, who dominate the administration and security forces.

· The remaining 1/3 of the population are mostly divided among the non-Isaaq Dir subclans and the Darod clan, each with their traditional territories. Their views on Somaliland status are more varied with many supporting an autonomous state within Somalia where Dir and Darod communities also exist. Hargeisa has dispatched the Somaliland military to attack pro-reunion communities within Somaliland, with Las Anod the best-known instance. In the last election, Somaliland’s electoral commission declined to set up voting stations in some pro-reunion areas.

· The Federal Government of Somalia recognizes a new Northeastern state made up of pro-unionist (non-Isaaq) communities bordering Puntland. The territory of this new state is within the borders of the former colony of British Somaliland, hence are claimed by the Somaliland administration.

· It is illegal in Somaliland to express support for any status other than independence. I heard the Hargeisa delegation during the Djibouti talks defend this law. Somaliland President Bihi once told me, when I asked about Somalilanders who support reunion, “of course we arrest and imprison our traitors.” Prominent Somalilanders active in Mogadishu politics and business cannot return home to visit their families. In Mogadishu, advocates of Somaliland independence are free to express themselves.”

🚨 The people of Waqooyi Bari state demand an explanation from Ugaas and house legislator Maxamuud Ugaas Cabdullahi.

Welcoming a disgraced horgal into the territory of Waqooyi Bari is an unacceptable insult to the social contract that the people of Waqooyi Bari agreed on. Especially after the unforgettable suffering and stagnation such rapacious men have afflicted on the people.

A horgal is not a member of the community and does not deserve a seat in any gathering.

Ugaas Maxamuud Ugaas Cabdullahi, and the elders present should issue an immediate apology and explanation to the people of Waqooyi Bari.
