@SaultStar “The return … comes after…
Incorrect: an extended two-week Christmas vacation.”
Correct: a two-day delay, followed by 8 days of remote learning.”
Ontario is about to mass infect its kids with COVID. It is blowing my mind we are choosing this route now, when so many kids are unprotected and when we have vaccines to protect them. The peak of the highest wave in the pandemic is not the time to return to school. It is immoral.
At least we now all agree that there is extremely limited ICU capacity due to staffing constraints.
There is not enough military personnel to staff even a fraction of the 600-1100 beds which only exist in newspaper reports & @ONgov websites.

Hey @YCDSB and @YRDSB...what's the plan? Any concerns? Now is the time to join other school boards and fight for safe schools for staff and students. We don't want the system to collapse in a matter of weeks as schools fall like dominoes. Action! #OntEd 👇👇👇
I'm putting together all letters of concern written to school boards to the Ministry of Education regarding back to school safety concerns. I have:
TDSB
TCDSB
OCDSB
DPCDSB
ALCDSB
HPEDSB
LDSB
Please send letters from other boards my way! #topoli#onpoli#onted

Do you know of a school board that's written a letter of concern to the Ministry of Education regarding back to school? Send it my way and I'll update my tracker! https://t.co/tYuwjQJoDG #topoli#onpoli#onted
@AlgomaHealth How can you say classes will “operate safely” when several of the preventative public health measures we’ve come to rely on - PCR testing/tracing/reporting - are no longer existent for the majority? Thanks again, @fordnation + @RossRomanoSSM.
@RossRomanoSSM Leading the way to … most hospitalizations for Covid? ⬇️ One would think you’d use this data - seeing as how you restricted PCR tests + we no longer have THAT data - to see our situation is worse now more than ever. But, let’s welcome millions to schools on Monday. ??? #onted
@AlgomaHealth Very disappointing, @AlgomaHealth, that you haven’t been tweeting a daily link to our status, esp today: 75 +ve cases/309 tests, so 24% positivity and 1 more death. @fordnation + @RossRomanoSSM may have thrown in the towel, but I expected more from you. #DoBetter#ssm#algoma
@AlgomaHealth I wish @AlgomaHealth would have stated that these numbers are part of the Ford govt’s new protocols (and restrictions) re testing. 45/353 makes it seem like our #s are decreasing when, in actuality, not everyone who wants a PCR test can acquire one. Only high-risk popn’s, no?
COVID ICU numbers in Ontario are not inflated:
COVID-Related Critical Illness is defined as: Admission to the ICU because of a clinical syndrome consistent with COVID, AND the patient has had a positive test that is consistent with acute COVID illness.
As per @OntHospitalAssn
I don't know if we'll all get Omicron. We might eventually. But I'm less worried about that than all of us getting it around the same time. That's when theoretical risk of strain to healthcare capacity becomes real. That is certainly avoidable. 13/
@AlgomaHealth Also, w/ 541 active cases (the most we’ve ever had) and a known highly transmissible variant, do we really want massive infection to take place in the coming week(s)? Can you not use your Section 22 orders to enforce a further delay? #2weeksNOT2days#onted
@AlgomaHealth@AlgomaHealth, Sault College + Algoma U announced weeks ago that all classes (except practical, hands on) were moving online. Yet the govt thinks millions of un- or partially-vaxxed kids can eat lunch, unmasked, in schl? What is your stance?! #onted
“Mild” but hospitals overloaded.
“Mild” but healthcare workers burnt out.
“Mild” but thousands of flights cancelled.
“Mild” but no booster shots for kids in under-ventilated schools.
“Mild” brain damage.
“Mild” collapse of society.
…“Mild” my ass.
#COVID19#Omicron#LongCovid
I want my kids in school but Jan 5 doesn't make sense.
If we wait 1-2 weeks we can:
-prioritize boosters for ed workers
-more vax 1/2 for 5-11
-shore up RAT and N95 supply chains
-hopefully see Omicron peak pass before adding gasoline to the fire
-blunt the wave hitting hospitals
I listened to the CMOH interview on @metromorning today
The idea that we can staff 2400 ICU beds & scale up by another 500 is absurd.
Reality:
We rarely exceeded 2000 ICU patients during the worst days of W3 & have fewer staff now due to attrition/isolation/burnout than before.
