Martinelli haters, I hope you all watched his sequence of play against Haiti.
The movement was outstanding. The understanding with Vinícius Jr. and Rayan was obvious from the first minute. Quick combinations, intelligent positioning, and constant runs in behind. Everything flowed naturally because his teammates were actually looking for those runs.
And speaking of runs in behind, did you all see that one Rayan picked out perfectly?
Funny how the entire football side of X loses its mind whenever Barcola makes that exact same run, posting clips, compilations and talking about elite movement. But when Martinelli does it, suddenly people go quiet. No threads. No analysis. No praise.
The double standards are hilarious.
For some reason, a section of the fanbase has convinced itself that Martinelli has become an average winger, when in reality Arsenal rarely put him in situations where his best attributes can shine. This is a player whose biggest strengths are his pace, directness, timing of runs, off-ball movement and ability to attack open spaces.
You don't get the best out of Martinelli by asking him to receive the ball with two defenders already waiting for him every single attack. You get the best out of him when teammates are brave enough to play early passes and when the system allows him to attack space.
That's exactly what we saw against Haiti.
Watching him link up with Vinícius and Rayan was a reminder of the player Arsenal fans fell in love with. The talent never disappeared. The movement never disappeared. The explosiveness never disappeared.
What disappeared was a system that consistently maximised those qualities.
And this is why I keep saying that if Mikel Arteta can find a way to fully utilise Martinelli's strengths, Barcola won't even come close.
People are getting excited over qualities Martinelli has already shown for years. The difference is that one player is being judged on what he can become, while the other is being criticised despite already proving he can perform at the highest level.
Maybe it's time some Arsenal fans started appreciating what they already have.
William Saliba: “There were a lot of jokes, people made fun of us. Even when we were top of the league, they were saying we were going to bottle it. If you want to change that, you just have to win. Now that we’ve won it, they can’t say anything anymore.” 🤫🏆 [@lequipe]
Declan Rice turned down Guardiola, turned down a winning machine, and probably turned down a bigger pay cheque - all to join a club that hadn’t won the league in twenty years. The balls on that guy.
Already a legend. Like Saka, a protected species.

One more step Arsenal nation. I honestly think days like today will become a regular for us under Mikel. Be confident but be humble. One more step. One source tells me Timber has played a behind closed doors friendly recently…
Fully behind you Mikel. COYG.
