Throughout this article it focuses on achieving the learning goal and not worrying so much about the task. But with PBL there are a variety of learning goals integrated in the task, so wouldn't the PBL lose value if you didn't focus on the task? #643Su20wk3#Es#DistLearnEng
I am very excited about starting the 2nd stage of distance learning, but I also wonder if we will also be working on the practices in the 3rd stage as we work on creating the 2nd stage. #643su20wk3#Es#DistLearnEng
The article talks about using zoom gradually, which is a great idea for all of the technology being introduced in digital learning. But the challenge is teaching something gradually when you have to use the tool in order to teach students to use the tool. #643su20wk3#ES#ESZoom
"Some schools have to rely more on parents" but what if they can't? If we must rely on digital learning in the fall how are we going to be able to hold students accountable if their parents will not help them or will not hold them accountable as well? #643Su20wk3#ES#ESZoom
I love the idea of empowering learning. However, when a district ask you to teach A, B, and C before the testing window, how is it possible to teach the students what they want to learn instead of what you are required to teach them? #643su20wk3#ES#7BigIdeas
I really like how this article breaks down the SAMR model. It helped me to understand that I do not always have to strive for redefinition, the other levels are just as valuable and useful for digital lesson development. #643su20wk3#ES#7BigIdeas
The best practice for keeping student information safe seems overwhelming. I would almost recommend that all teachers dual major in education and law in order to be prepared to keep it all straight and keep student information secure. #643Su20wk2#ES#StudentPrivacy
Thinking of #StudentPrivacy it really shines a light on the importance of resources like Interland which we learned about in 590. We need to teach students about internet safety at a young age so they have the tools and knowledge to protect themselves.#643Su20wk2#ES
Schools do everything in their power to keep student information safe. However the students and families should try to keep their information safe aswell. There is only so much a school can do when families do not take internet safety seriously.#643Su20wk2#ES#StudentPrivacy
@MrBeemersClass Plus you have to consider the teachers impact on student achievement. Should an LMS even affect student achievement? I would think that it’s how a teacher uses an LMS that would lead to improving student achievement not the LMS itself.
@freeman_kinder Absolutely, the true value of an LMS may not be seen until everyone gets used to it and can use all the features in the LMS. Plus student achievement may be greatly affected by the instructor no matter what LMS is being used.
@MorganMStanley I have been having this experience just with our classes in this program. All of the new tools and tricks have me rethinking how I teach and how I can improve my methods.
@GriffinTaschner My district required to use google classroom 3rd and up, and seesaw for K-1. Before COVID they were requiring remind be our main form of parent contact. I agree that it is helpful to only use one system, but education is not one system fits all.
@OT_with_CSue I completely agree, and support the autonomy of schools/districts. But that is why I question the accuracy of these studies because they do not take teacher impact into account.
While rolling out digital learning, the focus has been interacting with students. As a result, interacting with parents has suffered. "It takes a village" has never been more true, thus parent communication key to successful digital learning.#643Su20wk2#ES#LMSschool2home
The roll out of a LMS is just as importance of its use. This article provides list of recommendations to make implementing a new LMS. It is not just about having the latest and greatest LMS it is important to use it in the most effective way. #643Su20wk2#ES#LMSschool2home
"Some teachers are hesitant to communicate with parents
due to a fear of conflict." This statement is very sad because it is true. Teachers have become the villain, thus communicating with parents becomes a source of anxiety for many teachers.#643Su20wk2#ES#LMSschool2home
Many sited efficiency as a primary benefit to a LMS. This makes sense because the efficiency is what the LMS is truly responsible for. Improvements to teaching and learning would be derived from the instructors use of the LMS not the LMS itself.#643Su20wk2#ES#LMSperceptions
Next these they looked at "how specific instructors are successfully using the more interactive tools to engage their students inside the classroom and out." I would like to see this, I think it would help make our use of LMS more effective. #643Su20wk2#ES#LMSperceptions
"both faculty and students will need to recognize the opportunities provided by the system" This is the key to all online learning. We all need to be on the same page. For any LMS to be successful students and teachers need to use it effectively.#643Su20wk2#ES#LMSperceptions
