Full solidarity with @leicesterucu who are on strike later this week. This is in response to @NCanagarajah who refused to back down on the 26 compulsory redundancies (inc 4 in @UoLDWL) & his eagerness to move onto phase 2, which includes IT Services #NoOneIsRedundant
“Wait, let me get this straight...4 people are being made redundant at @UoLDWL but there are 6.2 FTE vacancies in the ‘shaping for excellence’ restructure?!”
#DefiesLogic#NoPlanNishan#NoOneIsRedundant
Sincere thanks our colleagues in @UoLDWL & @uniofleicslli for their hard work, dedication & support in helping us deliver teaching excellence over the past year, and for going the extra mile for our students through incredibly difficult times. We really appreciate and value you!
I taught a new module this year & student feedback was incredibly positive. The only reason it went so well was b/c @UoLDWL colleagues worked tirelessly to provide digital resources & @uniofleicslli taught me how to deliver it online. Thank you! @STOPTHECUTSDWL@leicesterucu@ucu
Staff make the Library a welcoming & safe space. In their business case, nowhere was “student wellbeing” mentioned/considered. The Exec Board don’t care for students, they rely on the good nature of employees to go above & beyond. But what happens when they’re not there anymore?
...we were able to listen, reassure & get them help. They left looking visibly lighter, and thanked us for helping. I’m incredibly humbled & proud to work somewhere that people feel safe enough to reach out. This is what our University is about ❤️ #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek
SO INFURIATING. One of the only reasons why teaching this past year hasn't fallen apart is because of the brilliant efforts by colleagues in the library who worked tirelessly to support learning. But apparently this is somehow justified? This is not what 'excellence' looks like.
Redundancy notices handed out today at @UoLDWL & across @uniofleicester in #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek no less! Redundancies in the Library despite there being vacancies left in the restructure...@NCanagarajah can you explain that one? ‘Shaping for Excellence’ defies logic
The Attenborough family have donated lots of material to @UoLDWL over the years. However @uniofleicester seem to think less Library staff are able to properly look after these collections, whilst simultaneously processing student visas! Shaping for Excellence? #NoPlanNishan

Dear @NCanagarajah. Your communication to all @uniofleicester staff that you submitted earlier today has now been marked and moderated. We hope you find the feedback useful. Our door is always open if you wish to discuss your work and proposals with us. Regards, Leicester UCU.
It also means overworked frontline support staff attempting to deliver library services whilst processing visas & course fee payments. What could go wrong? #NoPlanNishan
Pretty obvious that @uniofleicester's "Shaping for Excellence" really means covering the teaching at minimal cost with desperate PostDocs, whilst hoping that the publications to come from their theses will add up to an adequate research performance
We completely agree. The business case that affects the Library purports to enhance the student experience, but will do the opposite. Fewer staff, an increased expectation of student “self-service” & more inexperienced staff as the knowledgeable ones are all being pushed out
The Charles Wilson Library at @uniofleicester already is excellent. You don't make it more excellent by sacking half the staff and cutting back on journal subscriptions.
"Shaping for Excellence?" - what a sham!
