I år kan du som är svensk medborgare och befinner dig i Uganda förtids rösta i det svenska valet. Den 13 september är det val till riksdag, kommun- och regionfullmäktige i Sverige.

Du som vistas utomlands när det är val kan förtids rösta antingen genom att brevrösta eller genom att rösta personligen.

The @NLinUganda and @UNFPAUganda today signed a collaboration of USD 16 million as a contribution to the #SAYPlus, joining @DKinUganda @SwedeninUG and @IcelandinUganda in the multi-donor programme supporting Uganda's vision for youth empowerment, reproductive health and rights.

This is the Meänflaku, raised in many corners of Sweden today, on Tornedalians' Day.💛🤍💙

Tornedalians are one of Sweden's five official national minorities. They have lived in the area around Torne Valley for centuries and speak Meänkieli, a language related to Finnish, Estonian and the Sami language, among others.

The name of the flag, regardless of language, is Meänflaku. The blue💙 represents the summer sky, yellow💛 the sun and white🤍 is for the winter-white wilderness.

In 2000, Meänkieli was recognised as one of Sweden’s official minority languages.💬 The language is primarily spoken in the municipalities of Gällivare, Haparanda, Pajala, Kiruna, and Övertorneå.

Collective action towards building a more inclusive society where persons with disabilities can fully participate, access services, and exercise their rights without barriers. ⚖️

Our Moroto Office, with support from 🇩🇰🇸🇪🇳🇱🇮🇪, participated in the Annual Stakeholders’ Convention on the 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐈𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐊𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐨𝐣𝐚 𝐒𝐮𝐛-𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐨𝐧.

Held under the theme “𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐈𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐒𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐃𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧-𝐌𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠,” the convention brought together district local governments, civil society organizations, Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs), cultural institutions, religious leaders, and development partners to reflect on progress, identify persistent barriers, and strengthen collective efforts towards disability inclusion.

Stakeholders highlighted continued challenges affecting persons with disabilities, including stigma and discrimination, harmful cultural beliefs, limited access to education, healthcare, rehabilitation services, assistive devices, inaccessible infrastructure, inadequate disability data, and limited representation in decision-making spaces. 📈

The discussions also emphasized the need to strengthen disability inclusion across government programmes, promote meaningful participation of persons with disabilities in planning and budgeting processes, improve access to social and economic empowerment opportunities, and enhance community awareness on disability rights. ✊🏾

Today we celebrate Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden, Duchess of Västergötland, born on 14 July 1977 and heir to the Swedish throne .

Every year, the Crown Princess marks her birthday on the beautiful island of Öland, where several days of festivities — the beloved Victoria Days — bring together music, culture, and community in her honour.

Today, we joined partners at the Youth Innovation Exhibition, held in commemoration of #WorldPopulationDay, observed annually on 11th July. Hosted at the @UNFPAUganda office, the exhibition highlighted this year's theme: "Unlocking Uganda's Population Potential through Technology and Research to Drive Sustainable Development."

We were proud to see that some of the featured innovations have been nurtured through the Social Innovation in Health Initiative (SIHI) at @MakSPH, a Swedish-supported initiative that advances locally developed solutions to improve health outcomes. Sweden also supports @UNFPAUganda SAYPlus programme, which empowers young people with the knowledge, skills and opportunities to make informed decisions about their health, education and future.

Investing in youth-led innovation is investing in Uganda's future. Sweden remains committed to working with partners to create opportunities for young people to develop, test and scale solutions that improve lives and contribute to sustainable development.

Ever wondered how milk cartons became a thing? 🫣 Swedish inventor Erik Wallenberg created the first Tetra Pak carton in 1944 — simple, durable, and easy to transport. 💡

Today, that innovation helps deliver safe milk to 50,000+ schoolchildren in Uganda. With UHT tech and strong partnerships, @TetraPakEA, @SNVinUganda , and Food for Development make milk accessible even where electricity is unreliable — boosting nutrition and attendance.

As the week ends, we bid farewell to our colleague, Tomas Lundström, as he concludes his assignment at the Embassy of Sweden in Kampala.

Tomas has served as our Counsellor, Health & Social Protection and Humanitarian Focal Point, working closely with government, development partners and civil society to strengthen Sweden's partnership with Uganda, particularly in health, sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR).

Thank you, Tomas, for your dedication, friendship and service. We wish you every success in the future.

Through the Partnerships on Accountability, Civic Engagement, and Rights Project supported by 🇩🇰🇸🇪🇳🇱🇮🇪, we convened a two-day Business and Human Rights training in Moroto, facilitated by the Uganda Consortium on Corporate Accountability, @UccaUg.

Participants examined Uganda’s National Action Plan on Business and Human Rights, exploring why Land and Natural Resources, Environment, Women and Vulnerable Groups, and Access to Remedy are priority areas for Karamoja, while identifying practical ways to strengthen responsible business conduct and accountability across Karamoja. 🌎
