Lots of blood is used in cancer treatment. Cancer patients are often iron deficient and will have "falsely normal" ferritin levels due to inflammation.

Using tranexamic acid can reduce risk of cancelling elective surgery because of limited blood stocks @NHSBT

We recommend use of tranexamic acid is considered in all adult surgical patients & administered if >500ml blood loss is anticipated.
