"Who will rid me of this meddlesome priest?" asked Donald Trump on Truth Social a few days ago, referring to Pope Leo XIV.

No, wait. That wasn't President Trump. That was Henry II, and he was talking about Thomas Becket, who was protecting the church of England from a meddlesome king.

Some of Henry's courtiers (with or without his permission) took it upon themselves to rid their king of the nuisance.

They murdered Becket in Canterbury Cathedral. He said (so legend has it) that he died "for the Name of Jesus and in defense of His church."

You can understand my confusion. Both Henry II and President Trump bristle at being told what to do by mere clergymen.

Both think they have some say in who gets to Pope. "I don't want a Pope who . . ." Trump said repeatedly.

One doesn't need to be Roman Catholic to think Trump, like Henry, needs a lesson in basic ecclesiology.

The church is independent of every nation and ruler. She may not bow to any king but King Jesus, Lord of heaven and earth.

And the church must rebuke kings, judges, and generals when they abuse the sword God has given them.

The church lives within Psalm 2 and warns kings and rulers to kiss the Son or face His terrifying rod.

But here's the problem, homosexuality is the only sin pattern with a civil rights group behind it. And therefore, people who are deceived, as I was and Christopher [Yuan], by the lusts of our flesh have a cheering community behind you, and this is where you get the rub.

You see, it used to be that the church was clear and the world was the world, but because we have wolves in shepherds' clothing, we have way too many young people who are leaving the true church and claiming, 'Well, my same-sex attracted pastor told me it's not a sin to be gay.'

And you know, we are to be wise as serpents and gentle as doves. I want to be gentle with the people who are trapped in the lie of LGBTQ, but I am not gentle with the wolves...I quite frankly think they need to get a job selling insurance until they repent..."
