Dear @CBF_Futebol Fans,
For the 1st time, the @USMNT has a more Brazilian style than Brazil. 😳 We know how it feels. You have always welcomed 🇺🇸 to support Brazil at the @FIFAWorldCup . You are welcome to join our party this year as desired! Bring the guarana!
🤙
@PaulSpacey Well, if you hear about a mob gathering on this, give me a shout. I’m in. The best parts of the old courses were the networking, bouncing ideas between coaches, and the stress of not knowing if you were good enough to pass the on-field portion!! Hate to see those days fade.
This is gold.
Coach @PaulSpacey In my view, the issue you highlighted here is way more important than the “pay-to-play” debate. How do we get traction for change??
It’s a hot topic…
Colorado cuts its youth affiliates. Girona starts a program. FCB, La Liga, Liverpool, Man U, Valencia, etc. More than we can count.
▪️Consumer Protection Advice
Be vigilant. These pro clubs have marketing departments that sell licenses regionally and do not do this for pro pathways. They do it for brand recognition and ticket or merchandise sales. Sometimes for the clothing brands that sponsor them. Usually there is an internal marketing or a sports management group behind it.
Logos sell. They know it.
They may not lie, but some mislead parents and players. These are not pro pathways in the way some present.
I have had firsthand experience in this at two of the best youth academies in Europe and one top flight club in Mexico.
✔️Choose a program because your child loves the coaches and learns from them. Find that experience and it may come from your local club, a high school or from a logo program.
If you are being sold top flight pathway to the pros, you are being misguided.
▪️ Disclaimer
I run a private training method and programs from 2 weeks to 1 month. It may seem like I am criticizing for profit. Fair point. So it may seem.
However, the reason I started TOVO ironically was to create a pure development program. No politics. No power struggles. We never promise pro contracts or mislead in marketing for this very reason. I have been on the inside and I know what is sales nonsense and what is quality programming.
▪️Focus
Find a wholesome place for your child to fall in love with the beautiful game.
If that is at a logo camp or other big brand, great. If that is with the local coach who inspires and cares for kids, great.
Do your homework as a parent and your diligence will be rewarded in your child’s passion.
✔️ Smiles and high fives are the certification of approval.
Find good people who care about kids.
Good luck and be well.

@dadinthecorner Watch with passion & interest! And grip that coffee! It’s your kid!
& also remember that the team they make will have virtually zero impact on the adult they will become. (Unless YOUR identity is wrapped up in it. In that case at least offer to fund their future therapy bills😃)
Sport Parents- every time you start talking about youth sports, remember that 12 years* from now, your kiddo will be out of high school, maybe old enough to have a spouse and kids, hopefully contributing positively to society. Today’s “big deal” will not be so big at that time.
New thread idea:
🧵Convos with kids (and notably not with adults) about youth sports🧵
Somebody should pull on that one. I have a few doozies I could share! 🤣
@Secretgrassroo2 Here's what I've seen. You can spot a kid who has private coaching a mile off.
- Head down. They learn complex techniques in isolation, where there is no defender to punish them, or moving teammate to combine with. They only thing they can look at is the ball.
