@DrJenGunter@VidyaSzym But going out to test exposes more people, not fewer people. Maybe you have rapid tests. But if you take one of those and it's negative it could well be wrong. Or, even if it's not covid, no one wants flu/RSV/other either. Why not stay away from others if sick regardless?
@salltweets@DuncanHenry78 And if a trans woman or girl was competing in MEN'S or BOYS sports I would cheering so hard for her to break boundaries.
But not cheering for people who have the advantages of a male body stealing from women and girls.
@HannahDCox It makes me sad for past me who listened to this shit. Especially 15 year old me, 5'8 soccer and basketball player, second fastest on the team, muscular from sports and certain she was fat at 145 because or arbitrary shit like this that ignored that muscle has weight
@SK_higg@HannahDCox Maybe a bit of an exaggeration. I am 5'8, at 135 I was a size 6 so not super tiny.
On the other hand, my daughter is 5'9 and 117 and a waiter asked her of she wanted a soda or was on a diet and I was pretty annoyed (almost 15)
@jennitobinca@ms_lo_mo@ONT_Dad No, I know my child's preference on pronouns.
I just also know that you are wrong about it being impossible for parents to accidentally find out information from kids in the community. Or from other parents.
@jennitobinca@ms_lo_mo@ONT_Dad In my car "Then they said.." "Wait, X is a they/them?" "What? X had been a they/them since Freshman year!"
And they're not being "unkind" they're respecting another kid's identity. They're just not on constant guard that an adult might overhear.
@jennitobinca@EndicottJulia@HenshawLinda@ONT_Dad And that makes you omnipotent?
It gives you magic super powers to overhear conversations miles away from you?
It means that the kids I hear talking about NB classmates all the time aren't real because your textbook says teens wouldn't do that. Based on the decades of research?
@EndicottJulia@HenshawLinda@ONT_Dad Many teachers are also not loving or supportive and even more have no idea what they don't know. Especially at the high school level where they're with kids in a group of 30 for 50 minutes a day.
@jennitobinca@EndicottJulia@HenshawLinda@ONT_Dad You honestly think that being a teacher makes you an expert on what teenagers do and don't say to and in front of parents when no teachers are around?
Why?
@jennitobinca@EndicottJulia@HenshawLinda@ONT_Dad I call BS on that one. I'm around HS kids all the time and they have a lot of NB or trans classmates and they use the preferred name around me and other parents all the time. Most of the parents seem to know but the kids shouldn't be obligated to keep secrets like that.
@EndicottJulia@HenshawLinda@ONT_Dad Happen and it might be worse if the whole community knew first.
And teens also struggle to think months or years ahead.
That's why I think keeping a conference is good but a secret social transition is bad.
I see you are coming from a good place. So am I.
@EndicottJulia@HenshawLinda@ONT_Dad Blindspot when it comes to predicting likely outcomes to something like this.
As a caring adult, I think that a teacher should be very clear to a student that if they tell the whole school, their parents will find out. It might take 2 days, 2 months or 2 years but it will
