As Prime Minister of the Tooro Kingdom, on behalf of the people of Tooro, I wish to thank you most sincerely for your message of condolence and for standing with us during this moment of profound grief.

More importantly, Your Excellency, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for the love, guidance and support you gave His Majesty King Oyo throughout his life. You embraced him as your own son, guided him, nurtured him and stood by him through the different stages of his life and reign.

You served as His Majesty’s Mukuza, a responsibility and relationship that went far beyond official duty. His Majesty, in turn, honoured you by appointing you Omujwara Kondo, one of the most revered positions in Tooro Kingdom. That honour was a powerful expression of the love, trust and profound respect His Majesty had for you.

I had the privilege of learning directly from His Majesty how deeply he valued your support and the special relationship you shared. He spoke of you with great respect and affection. He appreciated your counsel and always made every effort to make you proud.

His Majesty was equally conscious of the responsibility he carried as King. He constantly encouraged us, as his leadership, to work for the development of our people, to maintain a constructive relationship with Government and to contribute meaningfully towards the aspirations of Uganda.

On a personal note, Your Excellency, I thank you for loving and standing by our King in the absence of a father figure. You were there for him not simply as President of Uganda, but as his Mukuza, mentor and someone he trusted and respected deeply. That relationship meant more to him than many people may ever have known, and those of us who were close to him understood its importance.

Today, Tooro has lost a King. You have lost a son and a friend.

We mourn with you just as you mourn with us.

May the Almighty God comfort you, strengthen you and grant you peace during this very difficult time.

On behalf of the Royal Family, the leadership and the entire people of Tooro, please accept our deepest gratitude for everything you were to His Majesty throughout his life.

May His Majesty rest in eternal peace.

Fortunately, in a telephone call, Her Royal Highness Kemigisa, told me that H.H. Oyo left a young boy heir that will be introduced to the public at the right time.

H.H. Oyo worked well with the Central Government, thereby avoiding the mistake of trying to use the Cultural Institutions that were restored by the NRM to promote sectarianism. It would be good if all the Cultural leaders understood the importance of this.

I direct that H.H. Oyo be given an official burial and, for three days, all the flags fly at half-mast. The three days are: the day of the burial, the day before and the day after. May his soul rest in eternal peace.

It was the greatest honour of my public life to serve you and your beloved Kingdom of Tooro.

We had dreams. We made plans. We started important work. And together, we made a difference.

I truly believed we had more time.

But time was not ours to decide.

Today, I make you one promise:

Your dreams will not die with you.

Those who believed in you, believed in us and believed in our vision will carry those dreams forward.

We will finish the work we started. We will continue the journey. And we will build the Tooro you dreamed of.

That is now our duty.

WATCH: Members of the Basiita clan on Friday made a cultural announcement following the death of Tooro King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru IV. The announcement followed a directive by Omujwera Musuuga Charles Kamurasi, head of the Babiito royal clan and uncle to the late King Oyo. The Basiita gathered at a kaswa, a small raised hill, where they sounded an alarm to notify subjects of the Tooro Kingdom about the death of the King. The ritual is part of the traditional system used to communicate significant events within the kingdom, particularly the death of a reigning monarch.
