In a judgement handed today, the NGT clearly stated that the EIA Report submitted by NHAI is not comprehensive and directed the project be kept in abeyance till a proper Assessment, including evaluating alternate alignments is conducted and submitted.
The banyans are safe for now

There are accidents on NH-163 because of speeding, rash driving and drunk driving. Increasing the width of the road will not reduce accidents unless the traffic police implements the speed limit and ensures trucks are not loaded beyond permissible limits.
