That is so awesome! I have about 94 different pronouns that we have coded into our game rn. Everyone in the mutual aid portion uses we/us pronouns, but the leader uses dragon/dragons pronouns to refer to dragonself. This inspired my 9 year old to refer to her teacher as dragon/dragons ❤️

I had to step away from my computer and go sit in the car because I started crying.

We were at the outdoor farmers market here in Texas. Wide open field, constant breeze, maybe twelve people total spread across an acre of stalls. I watched three separate vendors and two customers just… not wearing masks. Standing there breathing on the produce. One of them even laughed and told me to “go back to California” when I asked if they had one in the car.

I know the transmission data. I know outdoor airflow reduces risk. I also know that “reduced” is not the same as “zero,” and that every unmasked interaction is a choice to externalize risk onto immunocompromised people, elders, and anyone whose body has already been marked as disposable by a healthcare system that treats ongoing pandemic mitigation as optional. The fact that we were outside does not erase the political decision being made in real time.
I tried to explain this calmly. My voice shook. Someone told me I was “making it weird.”

I left before I said something I would have to apologize for later in a group chat. Instead, back to the mutual-aid RPG. At least the NPCs can be written to understand airborne transmission and respect their community.

It’s disappointing. As a Queer video game developer, it’s my priority to give our underrepresented community our deserved representation. It’s beautiful. Sigh… About my 9 year old daughter. My ex called today, crying, saying he just wants to see our child. I told him visitation isn’t happening right now and he immediately pivoted to legal threats.

What he refuses to understand is that this isn’t about punishing him. It’s about protecting a 9 year old who has already told me, clearly, who she is. Bringing her into a space where that identity will be treated as optional, temporary, or something to be negotiated with a man who still defaults to “he” and “my son” is not neutral. It’s exposure to the same patriarchal refusal that treats children’s self-knowledge as subordinate to adult comfort.

I’ve been the one managing the school emails, the therapist appointments, the constant work of making sure she isn’t misgendered in every institutional setting we encounter. He has offered none of that labor. Instead he frames his distress as the primary harm and expects access as the remedy. Emotional performance is not the same as demonstrated capacity to affirm her. Courts have historically sided with fathers who perform distress over mothers who document patterns of non-affirmation, but that doesn’t make the underlying dynamic any less extractive.

He can file whatever he wants. I will respond with the records of every conversation where he was asked to use her name and pronouns and chose not to. In the meantime the priority remains the same: a child who is allowed to exist without having her reality litigated as a parental right.
