Emergency was initiated by Indira Gandhi’s Congress party. The president of congress party acknowledged the arrest of Stalin in Rajya Sabha in March 1976 during the debate about MISA arrests. He said ‘ I know Stalin myself and we treated him (Stalin) well’. The one who said Stalin treated fairly under MISA in Rajya Sabha was Brahmanda Reddy. MP from Andhra. That’s the point of emergency. President rule was imposed and opposition leaders were arrested without warrants under MISA. Arrest under Maintenance of internal security act doesn’t need any reasons at that time. Government of India can arrest anyone and say it’s a matter of internal security. 1000s of leaders were arrested at that time all over india from regional parties like DMK and national parties like BJP, Communists, Marxists etc
